What are the main source materials used in making the above army list. If anyone has any sources most welcome.

It has an extensive bibliography, too, making the Khazars one of the best documented and researched of those eastern lance/bow military cultures.

The Khazar army is in the decline and fall book ( from memory but 95% sure of it )

Khazars are a branch of the West Turks, and are covered by that list.

FoG gives a very good representation of them, much better than DBM did, and probably better than WRG 5th, which I first used them under. The overall feel is similar to 6th and 7th, where the regular cavalry could shoot in two ranks for the first time, and careful use of skirmishing horse archers could produce quite major fire-shock effects on your opponent.

The representation of the Khazar nobles as Lancers makes them a bit different to other shooty cavalry armies, although it does give them a few tactical problems all of their own!
