I’m playing Pontus right now with the diplomacy update. I’m 60 turns into the campaign, and I managed to capture a few provinces, including Galatia (offering barbarian warbands as a provincial unit) and Asia minor, where a Barrack was built by the former occupant of the lands.
So I have two problems now :
1) It looks like I’m unable to produce Phalanx units. is it because of my civilisation level ? I’m a Glorious Monarchy right now, and a Hellenistic nation. The « Barracks » building was able to produce phalangites for the Antigonids, why can i only produce Hoplites and Warbands (units which are accessible via the Training Ground building already) ? Is this working as intended ? Are the phalangites not a part of the troops accessible for Pontus ? Because historically, Pontus did field phalangites in many occasions, and they were a part of the army during the Roman-Pontic wars and even before.
2) Since I formed the « Galatia » province, I’ve been able to recruit Warbands as a heavy infantry unit. However, this unit doesn’t work as a provincial unit, but as a regular one : I can recruit these Heavy Infantry warbands everywhere in my kingdom, inside and outside of Galatia, and these units do not have a scaling cost, contrary to a regular Provincial unit. They just work as standard troops. Is it working as intended ?
Otherwise, despite these two things I’ve had a very good experience playing as Pontus, very interesting start, and the new diplomacy patch gives the player nice tools to survive in the middle of the Diadochi wars ! Happy new year to everyone
