Sin and Sacrifice and/or Resurrection Crashing

Post by cindersoul05 »

I checked the forums first for solutions and found nothing that specifically matched my issue, so I'm hoping this will do the trick. I had previously purchased/downloaded BSG: Deadlock, along with Broken Alliance and Anabasis, from Steam about two weeks ago. I played the games for days with no issues, and decided I liked them so much I'd go ahead and by the remainder of the DLC. No sooner do I do so and download it, than any attempt to play the game at this point results in a crash. Sometimes it crashes when loading old save files, sometimes when I try to start a new game, sometimes before even getting to the Main Title Screen. I have gotten as far as the Tactical Room before a crash.

I checked all my drivers to make sure they are up to date, scanned for viruses, updated everything I can think of. My system isn't the greatest....it's a laptop, but like I said, had no issues with the main game through Anabasis. I have always received the "Intel Graphics detects unsupported card" message, but again, didn't seem to be an issue before. I am running Windows 7, with intel core i3 processor and intel HD Graphics 4000 card. Help! I just wanna smash ships against each other again!

welcome to the forum and sorry for your issue

same reply on the same subject tbh, if you can upload your report, or at least update your drivers to the latest version, hopefully the error will go away, using older drivers aren't always supported

Hi, thanks! I am not sure if what I am uploading is the right thing or not, but here is what I *think* is the DxDiag report you requested.

My attempts to update the drivers so far have all reported that I am using the most up to date/current drivers. I went in through Device Manager in my Control Panel, clicked on the Graphic Card, and clicked Update Driver. Is there another way I should be going about it?

Operating System: Windows 10 Home 64-bit (10.0, Build 18362) (18362.19h1_release.190318-1202)
Language: English (Regional Setting: English)
System Manufacturer: Notebook

Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4720HQ CPU @ 2.60GHz (8 CPUs), ~2.6GHz
Memory: 24576MB RAM
User DPI Setting: 120 DPI (125 percent)
System DPI Setting: 120 DPI (125 percent)

Card name: Intel(R) HD Graphics 4600
Display Memory: 2160 MB
Dedicated Memory: 112 MB
Shared Memory: 2048 MB
Current Mode: 1920 x 1080 (32 bit) (60Hz)
Driver Date/Size: 29/09/2016

Card name: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970M
Display Memory: 15262 MB
Dedicated Memory: 3032 MB
Shared Memory: 12230 MB
Driver Date/Size: 22/04/2018

Realtek High Definition Audio
Date and Size: 15/07/2015

all in black need updating to the latest

Code: Select all

https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/detect.html

Code: Select all

https://www.nvidia.co.uk/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-uk

Code: Select all

https://realtek-download.com/download-hd/
then once updated reboot, you may need to reboot after any or all of the driver updates, if it asks, then do as it's better to have them installed correctly then try and do them all at once, sometimes on some systems it will need to, on others you may have to only do it once at the end, then visit and read this link below

Code: Select all

https://www.techadvisor.co.uk/how-to/pc-components/how-set-default-graphics-card-3612668/
then once you select the correct device, the card in the notebook and not the onboard GPU, the game will work fine, you will need to do this with any game which requires it, some will auto detect, others won't and you may need to manual do it for the game in question,

good luck

Respectfully, I really appreciate your efforts on my behalf thus far, but am now thoroughly confused. I don't recognize the system in your last post, but I know it's not mine. I am not running Windows 10, I am running Windows 7. I do not have an Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4720 HQ CPU @ 2.6GHz (8 CPUs), I have an Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-3217U CPU @ 1.8 GHz (4 CPUs). I do not have an NVIDIA GeForce Graphics Card of any kind.

Are you saying I need to upgrade to a system with the above specified minimum requirements?

Because as I have already stated, my current device drivers for my current devices on my current system are up to date. I confirmed this manually, and this morning with the help of the link you provided to the Intel Driver & Support Assistant.

So according to everything my system and Intel are telling me, all of my drivers are up to date, do not need further updating, and my system should therefore not require any rebooting, though I have of course restarted it several times since this problem arose just to be sure.

So what now? Did you perchance look at somebody else's DxDiag by mistake, or am I missing something? Would uninstalling the game and reinstalling do the trick? If all I can play is through Anabasis, and that means I can't play Sin or Resurrection, then that's better than nothing.

I just read the DxDiag link I originally posted, and I'm totally confused as to where I got that link in the first place because it is indeed what you posted, but it is not my system. I read the original (unzipped) report on my desktop, and it has the information for my system. I'm afraid if I .zip it again it'll somehow alter the information; I am going to paste the original here, it should have the correct information. Apologies if it's a wall of text:

Re: Sin and Sacrifice and/or Resurrection Crashing

Post by cindersoul05 »

My post on this thread is the most recent on the forum? Dang. Anyway, I contacted Slitherine Customer Support via e-mail and finally came up with a solution to my problem. Though I'm sure it solves 95% of issues, the suggestion to update my drivers was ultimately not what I needed; as I mentioned a couple times, my drivers and system were all up to date and that was not the issue. What wound up being the problem, in the end, was that my system is old and just *barely* meets the minimum reqs to play the game; it was just getting overwhelmed and crashing every time.

So, to the solution. I open Documents>BlackLabGames>BSG, and inside there is a .txt file called config.txt. I right-click the file, and delete it. Then I open the game as I normally would. On the main screen I am asked to pick a language again, even if I have already done so, and this will happen every time I delete the config.txt file (which I have to do each time before I play). The graphics settings will automatically be set to lowest when you open it this way, which is what you want because then the game won't crash. At least, that has been my experience. Everything still looks just as good as it did if not better than before I downloaded anything beyond Anabasis, but the chop and lag are gone and the game runs nice and stable all day if I want it to.

I hope somebody with a similar issue can read this and, if the software equivalent of "power-cycling" doesn't work for you, then maybe this will. Thanks Zakblood for your attempts to assist me. Still have no idea how my computer generated the specs for that other system :P
