Parachuting?
Is it just me or is the parachuting in the game very inconsistent? I'm trying to use paras more but seems like I'm not allowed to on some maps/airfields, can't deploy them in the air on some maps despite removing transports or can't embark from certain airfields. Anyone know the exact mechanics on using them efficiently?

Re: Parachuting?
That should not be the case. During deployment you can run out of hexes, if you bring a lot of air units and on some maps there are no air units allowed in general (that is very rare though). Embarking from airfields should always work. The only thing I can imagine is an air unit above the air field blocking the hex or having transports on them.

Re: Parachuting?
You have to have the transports, aka Junkers Ju-52's to transport the men. Some scenarios do not allow for any, which is frustrating, but if you really want to have them I think you can go in the scenario editor and add them to the scenario, but I do not know how to do that.MaxDoge wrote: ↑Fri Dec 06, 2019 1:28 pm Is it just me or is the parachuting in the game very inconsistent? Re: Parachuting?
Air units are limited so if you deploy your airforce you might not have free slots for paras.
Try to remove a fighter and see that the para can be deployed now. Or firstly deploy the para, and you won't be able to deploy all your air units.
Never happened to me, since they start on the air transport, they should call it back when re-embarking.or can't embark from certain airfields. Anyone know the exact mechanics on using them efficiently?
Maybe you have deployed another air unit meanwhile?
Re: Parachuting?
Thanks for the replies guys but I'm afraid Goose is right, some scenarios just don't seem to allow any to be deployed or embarked which is disappointing.

If you have transports available but can't deploy, try switching between air and ground mod.
Also, if your paras have transport you can't use planes.
Bear in mind that a destroyed airborne unit loses the transport, so you can end up with fewer than you started with.

Thanks, but I'm aware of that, that's why I was asking about what looked like hidden limitations. Definitely have enough experience using paras overall, I remember in the old Panzer General 2 many years ago when sometimes I'd get a recon movement hero on an infantry, I would always put in on a paratrooper unit and that would be my favorite unite, because he could embark, move, disembark and attack all in the very same turn!captainjack wrote: ↑Sat Dec 07, 2019 6:06 am If you have transports available but can't deploy, try switching between air and ground mod.
