Andalusian **

Post by Scrumpy »

Apologiews if this has been covered already, I had not seen it.

In the Andalusian list it reads "Minima marked ** apply if any foot are used."

Yet there is no ** in the army list, and some foot are in the core listing.

Should we ignore the ** reference, or which troop types does it apply to ?

Cheers

It applies to Andalusian ally contingents.

IMO a real sleeper army is hidden somewhere in the Andalusians or the Umayyad list...

Interested to see what you've come up with...

Only read the first page, not checked the allies section lol.

Always liked the Andalusians, and enjoyed a series of battles v Feudal Spanish under the old set. Looking forward to seeing how they perform under FoG.

Would the Slav Guard have worn European or Arabic mail coats ?

Cheers

I am guessing Arab. They were a type of mamluk, not European mercenaries.

Hi all.

Slavs were Mamluks warriors from diferents origins, they were Egyptians mainly altough some of them were Europeans too.

They were called "Soqabila" by the muslims, it means "Slaves" . At the beginning they were Slaves in Al Andalus, but finally they got an Etnic status and were very appreciated by Abderraman III, who organised the "Slav Guard"

I only have a few descriptions of the Slav Guard, but all agree in the equipment, long mail coat, Spear and doble handed Sword.

The best description of them were done some years later, In some text about "The Cid" says that the Slavs were very similar to the Christians troops, I think that norman miniatures can be used for depict them, but the helmet is a few diferent and the Shield must be a Heart shield of big size.

They supoorted the royal family in the civil war, but were forced to take shelter in eastern Spain, where they founded some smalls Taifa Kingdoms.

Thanks Robert, amazing what you can learn when not watching spiders !

Gave the Andalusians a trial run last night v some Asture-Leonese troops, and it ended in a timed out draw, the real winner being my wife who had insisted on being home in time to watch American Idol.
