Field of Glory Integration
Do I need all the FOG DLCs to play empires, if I get to a province that I don't have the DLC for will I just play generic troops on the battlefield?
Re: Field of Glory Integration
you don't need any to play FOGE

The period of the game is the same as FoG2. DLCs extend FoG2 forward or backward in time so are not needed.

In fact some DLC units (e.g. Imperial Roman legionaries, auxilia and sagittarii) are used in the later part of the game, but you don't have to own the DLC for them to be used.

Richard, at what point can you recruit Roman sagittarii in FOGE? I've had the imperial reform a long time now and I have not seen any ... Is there a date requirement to be met?

Re: Field of Glory Integration
Sorry, I am not sure, I am not the right person to ask as I only specify the conversions for FOG2, not the conditions under which the units can be recruited. I was under the impression that some of the Italian provincial units mutated into Sagittarii with the Imperial reform.fractious_celt wrote: ↑Tue Nov 26, 2019 7:44 pm Richard, at what point can you recruit Roman sagittarii in FOGE? Re: Field of Glory Integration
You get them with the Imperial reforms, you might need to have a legion camp in the relevant region.

But, why would that happen? Roman archers were not recruited in Italy. If you want early empire archers you should need early empire territories that supplied archers.

Re: Field of Glory Integration
I have been through two full Rome campaigns and have not seen them anywhere, but maybe I do not have a camp in the right province - or maybe I simply do not have the requisite province. Thanks anyway Richard.

You have a good point. I am not sure if they even still work like that in the current version. I will draw Pocus's attention to this thread.julianbarker wrote: ↑Wed Nov 27, 2019 10:39 pm But, why would that happen? Roman archers were not recruited in Italy. Re: Field of Glory Integration
Good catch, there was an issue where only one of the two possible choices for the reform would add archers.
You can recruit them under the same conditions as being able to recruit an Imperial Legion, i.e. you need an Imperial Legion camp. This is a conscious decision, the game doesn't pretend to be strictly historical (e.g. you might have noticed that legions don't have historical names, that they are not strictly limited in numbers and that they could be recruited from regions without any roman citizens even before the Caracalla reform - which is not represented in the game either)
Addendum: Restricting sagitarii so they can't be recruited in Italy would probably not take more time to me than replying to this thread. That's not the issue. But doing so, you can be sure that some players would not understand (with reasons) why in some cases they can recruit archers and in some cases they can't. So you would have to find something in the interface telling them so. I don't see much interest in adding this restriction, as it would slightly obfuscate the gameplay. But it is reaaaallly easy to mod that, if you are interested, you just need to tweak some areas.

Pocus, I've had the imperial reform some time now, but no archers, even where there is an imp. legion camp. Are there any other criteria for their recruitment?

I think it might be a bug. As Pocus says, there are 2 decisions, and currently only one of them (the less popular one) allows the archers.fractious_celt wrote: ↑Thu Nov 28, 2019 3:51 pm Pocus, I've had the imperial reform some time now, but no archers, even where there is an imp. legion camp. My first campaign went the cheap route but I didn't notice them there ... Either way, I have the Gastraphetes so I'm happy. Thanks again to Richard and Pocus.
