Allied Oil Question

Post by afk_nero »

How do the US and UK get there oil.

Its 1942 and I have Iraq which as I am aware is the only allied oil field - do they get other sources of oil.

I am hoping that by doing this that the allied oil will slowly become an issue.

Most of it comes from "off-board", which means there's no way for the Axis to interfere with it. The capture of the Iraqi oil fields is more of a help to the Axis versus a hurt to the Allies oil situation.

Well thats a pity - its July '42 I have captured Moscow and am on my way to Gorki then to Perm, in the centre I have captured Vorohnezh and in the South my allied forces are holding a line north of Maikop. The crimea is also not fully taken as I have only captured Sevastepol (held with a Romanian corps). My opponent (This is a PBEM game) has forces down south but (about eqaul to my allies but with some armour) but has not yet launched an attack.

The Med is all mine with only Gibralta and Malta in UK hands. The USA has entered the war but I have yet to feel there presence at all. In the west I have 5 fighters and 1 strat bomber fighting airbattles with western allies, the coastal cities are held by garrison troops, but I have Italian Mech and Inf corps in reserve if a landing does happen.

All in all I am in a good position - my manpower levels are good for Italians, germans and allies (with the exception of the Fins), Oil is good and the tech race is proceeding as planned. Against Russia alone I will win. I am however very worried that there is a big nasty invasion waiting to happen from the yet unseen americans. I have no naval in the Atlantic so have no idea of whats happening there. I was hoping that they would begin suffering with lack of oil due to my capture of the Iraqi feilds but my hopes have been dashed.

I think I have the upper hand in this game but it is not a garunteed thing - it could all go horribly wrong still.

It sounds like you have the game very well in hand. But it sounds like you now need to start building up quality units (i.e., fighters, bombers & armor) in the west to defend against a US/UK invasion. Also, I've found that subs are very effective for intelligence gathering. 3 or 4 sub units strategically place could tell you a lot about what the western allies were up to.

I am in a weird situation right now - I dont want to let up pressure on the Russians so am reinforcing and sending more german units to finish the job. All german production and effort is aimed at the destruction of the Soviets. This unfortunalty means that besides the fighters it will be left to the Italians in the short time if the allies land in the West. That said the Italians are now no push over, they are at organization level 2 and there infantry research is progressing well, manpower levels are high becuase until now they have not really fought.

With regards to the Naval situation - I am using subs to controle the Med and went for the theary of achieving local success - this has meant that I have not had to garrison the Mediteraean as I controle the waves, dispersing my naval out of the med will allow him to take controle. My german battleship is the only atlantic threat I have but this is safely tucked away in port near Denmark.

Interesting game. I guess it boils down to can you finish Russia off quickly enough and transfer your army to the west to defend against or defeat a western Allied invasion. It's strategies and gambles like this that make CEaW fun to play over and over again.

In terms of the west it does sound like you do need some intelligence gathering assets to give you some idea what's going on. Do you have any strategic bombers available? They have a long range and you can use them against key Allied ports and cities to find out what's there.

I have one long range strat bomber - but it needs fighter escort as he put allot of tech research early on into Air and as such has a pretty lethal air force that is a match for the germans he also has 1 more fighter group then myself in the west which has led to defencive deployments of my fighters (I have one more building). I cant send the bombers in or they get chewed up. I use the strat to just sit there for recon purposes around the Dutch Belgium Wilhelmshaven area. All fighters sit North of Paris outside of direct range of the enemy fighters but close enough for intercept missions. There is also a garison unit with them with a leader to provide greater effectiveness.
