What do I do with this Elephant?

What do I do with this Elephant?

The Emporer has given me an... Elephant.
Would any Generals around here know what to do with them? In battle, they die so quickly.

They are great shock troop IMO, I "manually" resolve all my key battles (go get FOG 2 if you still havent) and I found them useful. I never put them in the frontline though, more as support, first the infantery engage its opponent, once the ennemy is locked there is always enough room for a charge. Charging elephants are powerful.
