REQUEST: Provincial Unit Purchase Expense Indicator

Post by uneducated »

If you build one or two units of a particular Provincial Unit, the cost doesn't really change, but the more of these units you field at a time, the more expensive they become.

Could we have a graphical indication (like a bar of increasing length/changing colour) which indicates how expensive the next purchase will be relative to the cost of the first one?

You might try and build 20 Balaeric Slingers, for example. How would you know whereabouts their cost started rocketing?

I don’t think the *purchase* cost increases until the next turn after you buy an elite unit. So if a Cretan archer costs $100, and you have the Equipment to buy 10, you’ll only end up paying $1000. If you try to buy more Cretan archers on the following turn, then yes the cost surcharge will kick in, based on having 10 in the field already.

Note this gives an extra advantage to having high Equipment production in a province, allowing you to save on provincial units by buying in bulk.

I *think* there is one caveat to this however, and it has to do with maintenance. The maintenance cost of a unit does not seem to get locked in at the lower bulk purchase price mentioned above, but rather escalates based on having purchased them one at a time. So those 10 Cretan archers you thought you were getting such a good deal on may end up bankrupting you in maintenance fees.

That’s been my general observation on how this works ... I haven’t been able to run the numbers to confirm this with absolute certainty however.
