ANA SF getting stuck in mountains

When ANA SF rappel down into mountains, sometimes (about 1/3 probability) they get stuck in the middle of animation or turn invisible. The unit in question can be selected, but if any order given to it game soft-hangs, not completing the order nor allowing me to select any other unit. The only way around it is to quit and load the save.
So, anyone knows what causes that and how to avoid or fix this issue?
US SF turned invisible on me once, too, but it was still answering to orders.

And how can I actually save a game which saves on itself only, on turn end?..

Also, my rank (on uniform) seems stuck on base 2nd LT. I'm getting the medals, but the rank progress bar stays empty. Clean reinstall didn't help.

Huh. Seems the skirmish games add to my rank progress, but not the campaign ones. Weird.
