Slitherine price vs Steam

Post by Froz »

Are the Slitherine prices in non-dollar currencies set correctly? They are quite higher than Steam, GOG and other stores prices.

In Poland I get 142.99 PLN on Steam versus 167.99 on Slitherine.

As far as I can tell, the price in € is 33.99 on Steam versus 38.99 on Slitherine.

Steam prices seem to match the direct conversion from $ better, which I guess does not reflect the difference in taxes. But Steam prices do contain VAT, so why they are cheaper?

I was considering buying on Slitherine, as I know Steam takes a big cut and wanted to support the authors, but not if I have to pay almost 20% more.

We set the price in USD then BlueSnap (our e-commerce partner) set the exchange rates on the shop and they deal with the conversion for other currencies.
One way around this is to purchase the game in USD or another currency, then you will be charged a currency conversion rate by your bank, but this is usually less than the default conversion rates.

Thanks for the the answer. I understand it's out of your reach. I will check if I it makes sense for me to buy in $.

Also, I just noticed there is now 10% cut in Slitherine, so the difference is not that terrible anymore.

Saved $5 purchasing on Slitherene vs Steam.
But...I always buy Slitherene/Matrix games in their stores.

Hm, is it intended to have Steam work out cheaper than the Slitherine site?

In £ it's cheaper to get it on Steam for all except the General edition. And that's with the 10% off on the Slitherine site. I would have thought it would be the other way round, cheaper on Slitherine's site and maybe more pricey on Steam?

Just wondering.

Don't ever buy from Slitherine/Matrix if you can avoid it. Steam allows you to try the game first. Slitherine/Matrix will take your money and run with no refunds.

I have games from Steam, but I prefer to load directly from Slitherine without intermediary, and I have the impression that with a low bandwidth, since I travel a lot in remote places, the game works better.

If price is the same, I prefer to buy from the publisher rather than steam
