I ask as I have a reasonable number for DBM, but that equates to a couple of BG's, assuming the generals are chariots bases as well(so removing them from the available list)

How many Chariot BGs
So while waiting for 'swifter than... chariot bases lists, does anyone have an idea/can provide guidance on how many chariot BG's would be typical/allowed in a NKE and Hittite armies?

. I'm just looking to see if I need to think about getting some more wheelie guys to make these armies effective in FOG.

Chariot bases permitted (excluding commanders):mellis1644 wrote:So while waiting for 'swifter than... chariot bases lists, does anyone have an idea/can provide guidance on how many chariot BG's would be typical/allowed in a NKE and Hittite armies?
NKE:
26 Egyptian chariots + 6 Canaanite or Syrian chariots. All LCh, Bow
Hittite Empire:
20 Hittite, Arzawan, Masan or Pitassan chariots - if you want to be "right on" these should be LCh Bow, but there are options for LCh Light Spear or (from 1275) HCh with Bow or Light Spear, 8 Other Anatolian or Gasgan chariots LCH Bow or Light Spear, 12 Syro-Canaanite chariots - LCh Bow, of which 4 can (from 1275) be upgraded to Ugaritic HCh.
All the HCh are now thought to be a misinterpretation of the evidence, and most Hittite chariots were probably bow armed. We have allowed the old interpretations as an option to accommodate existing armies and figure ranges, but we don't believe in them.

Mitanni can have 44 chariots, but you would need a 1,000 AP army to field them all.hammy wrote:By my calculations if you are willing to cut down a bit on commanders you could get 32 chariots on the field with an 800 point New Kingdom Egyptian army![]()
As the chariots are 18 points for drilled and 17 for undrilled 30+ do take a lot of you points though

I am interested in the hittie heavies? were they supposedly carrying two passengers, one with bow, one with long spear?

Current thinking is that they did not exist, and that the depictions show 2 man chariots (driver and 1 fighting crewman) giving a chariot runner a lift.I am interested in the Hittite heavies? Were they supposedly carrying two passengers, one with bow, one with long spear?
The list still allows the heavies (as an alternative) for those who disagree with current thinking, but we personally are convinced by the more recent analysis.
can yu point me in the online direction of this reserach?rbodleyscott wrote:Yesstefoid wrote:All LCh Bow?rbodleyscott wrote: Mitanni can have 44 chariots, but you would need a 1,000 AP army to field them all.

It is by no means all available on line. Some was published in "Slingshot" a few years ago - the Slingshot archive is available from the Society of Ancients on DVD.stefoid wrote:can yu point me in the online direction of this research?

However, there was some discussion on the ancmed yahoo group recently, some of which may be relevant.
