Can any one explain why Welsh and Scottish tournaments get their respective flag for their tournament and yet English ones get the Union flag rather than the Cross of St George?

I can understand non-Brits making the mistake but I thought Slitherine were British and would have known better.

That because we are now ruled by the Welsh, Scottish and Irish in Westminster but they get their own Parliaments at home. They are extracting revenge for countless years of tyranny.

Given the origin of St George, it isn't necessarily unambiguous:

Probably for the same reason that the Celtic nations get National Anthems that are specific to them, wheareas we English have to make do with "God Save the Queen" which is supposed to represent the entire UK not just England. Personally I loathe the royal family and everything they stand for so I don't feel "God Save The Queen" speaks for me in any way whatsoever but I respect the rights of others to disagree with my views on the royals and also the fact that this is a wargames forum and not a political one so I'll leave it at that, but isn't it about time we had an Anthem that represents England and its people? "Jerusalem" springs to mind (the irony in the title is not lost on me) and yes, I really would rather see the cross of St George on anything that purports to represent something specifically English, even in something as relatively minor as wargames.

If it helps the BHGS tour party to Australia in 2005 made a big point of the tour shirts being red and white with the cross of St George on their arm. We even managed to get everyone wearing them on St Georges day at the comp ;)

Heathen. It would have to be "Land of Hope and Glory"
