Charge path curio.

Post by General Shapur »

I was curious about this odd charge path.

I'm playing Arabs (Yellow)

I wanted to park my cav (commander with the beveled box around it) in front of the arrowed unit. However, that square was not available to move into. I can however, charge the unit - which I did.

Is it odd that I can charge the unit but not move directly in front of it?

Arrowed unit is within your charge distance, but since the straight path to it is blocked by your klibanoforoi, you are allowed to charge them via roundabout way.
Normally you cav can't move to that square due to turning limitation.
Pretty sure it's working as intended.

Hey those are my Vikings! :)

The allowed movement paths are sometimes a bit puzzling; you can end in a square, but not on an earlier one along the way at times.

That is correct.

This is because the game (deliberately) only takes into account the angle required to reach the final destination. In the case of a charge, the final destination is actually the enemy unit's square, not the one that the unit ends up in. So sometimes the enemy unit's square is within a 45 degree angle from the charging unit's original facing, but the square the chargers end up in isn't, so would not be allowed as a destination for a non-charge move because of the extra turn cost for turning more than 45 degrees.

Though non-intuitive, this is working as intended.
