Bug reports/Game Crashes
I just purchased Fields of Glory II on Steam, two game crashes in two hours. Anyway,my wife rang the dinner bell while I was posting. Do you guys want the crash .log files sent somewhere?

Re: Bug reports/Game Crashes
At what point did the crashes occur? What error messages (if any) did you see?
The more info you can provide (ideally including your system spec) the better
Cheers

Oh hi, my wife hollered that it was dinnertime while I was posting. Do you want the .log files? OK, I think I figured it out. I hope that is what you guys want/need. Nice game BTW, I am really looking forward to getting into FoG Empires but I want to fight a few tactical battles first.

Damn, here is another one from after dinner. Same quick battle from the auto-save. It crashed at the end of my turn while clicking "confirm".

Here is another crash file while continuing the game. It said "Please report" so I hope I am doing this properly and not looking like a trouble maker to the forum.

Re: Bug reports/Game Crashes
I am looking at my anti-virus program and I added FoG II to the list when I installed it but after a closer look more could be done to whitelist the App. I have now done so and I will come back and post if there is an improvement. Nice game BTW, I am very excited about getting thru this and into Empires which is why I purchased both games at the same time.

Re: Bug reports/Game Crashes
I was nearing the end of my turn in a Custom Battle, spinning the camera and this crash occurred.
FIELDofGLORY2.EXE ***Unhandled Exception!
ExpCode:0xC0000005 ExpFlags: 0
ExpAddress 0x5D286898
Anyway it said "Please Report" so here it is. I like the game but it is pretty un-playable at the moment, I hope there is enough information here to make some headway, I would like to play the game.
And Good morning!, I'm not trying to spam you about it, I'm just hoping that we can get it fixed so the game becomes playable.
Regards.

Re: Bug reports/Game Crashes
Let's try and handle this in this thread rather than the Steam one as it's simpler to have everything in one place.
As Richard says, at this point in the game's life random crashes are pretty uncommon, certainly with the frequency you seem to be experiencing. Unfortunately the stack trace logging is failing, which can happen, so it will take a little more digging into. I will try and determine the crash location from the crash address via the map file.
It may be worth running a RAM check, just to remove it as a potential source: https://www.techrepublic.com/article/ho ... stic-tool/
If there are any other common elements you spot then please let us know.
Cheers

Re: Bug reports/Game Crashes
An initial look suggests that the crashes are all happening inside the video driver. A check of the DXDIAG shows that your drivers are not WHQL certified. Are they beta drivers by any chance? It may be worth reinstalling the drivers with a certified set.

Thanks for the amazing responsiveness to this issue.

Re: Bug reports/Game Crashes
The drivers are thru the NVIDIA app in my Task bar. Maybe they put Beta drivers up for the last update a few days ago, I don't know. I will go to their website and see if I can find out and reinstall if needed.pipfromslitherine wrote: ↑Wed Jul 31, 2019 2:43 pm An initial look suggests that the crashes are all happening inside the video driver. Re: Bug reports/Game Crashes
OK, Driver version 431.60 is now installed, I believe that is an update from the July 17th download that I had installed. I will fire-up the game and see how it acts, it would be great if it is just a Driver issue.

So far so good Pip. I will run a couple more battles and come back and post but at this time (after two complete battles with no issues) I think that you have solved it with the new NVIDIA driver.

Re: Bug reports/Game Crashes
The game has been running very well, I really worked it yesterday. This file is from a battle that was imported from FGEmpires.
Thanks for all of the help, you have got yourself a real gem here with FGII and FG Empires!

There doesn't seem to be a crash happening in that log. What exactly happened in the runthrough?

Re: Bug reports/Game Crashes
It just crashed about midway thru a battle that I had imported from Empires. But both games ran just fine all day up until that point, I was surprised when it happened because earlier in the day I worked the heck out of it with camera movement and angles. I left it running and walked away from my desk for 10 or minutes a couple of times and came back and it was still up and running just fine. A couple of hours later I was playing an imported battle and it crashed. Those are the files that were in the directory. I dunno but the game is real stable with the new drivers other then that crash.

Could these be it? I just noticed them and I can't remember Empires crashing.

Re: Bug reports/Game Crashes
It does look like you had a crash in Empires at some point with an older version. The FoG2 error log looks more like something killed off the process. Is it possible that the video card is overheating - this can sometimes cause Windows to restart the driver which would likely kill the game off too.
Try adding the line
FPSLIMIT 30
to the USER.TXT file in Documents/My Games/FieldOfGlory2. This will force the game to run at a lower max framerate. If it makes a difference then you can tweak the value lower to get the best FPS/stability balance.
Cheers
