Does Sparta Increase Citizen Pop.??

Post by Blathergut »

I've played about 50 turns as Sparta and my capital pop. has gone up from 13 or so to 20 or so but the citizen pop. has remained the same at 2 the entire time. Does it ever increase?

I am currently playing Sparta, the earliest save I have is a hundred turns into the game. Yes the slave/cit ratio is out proportion to the rest of my regions. I have 3 citz and 15 slaves. I think the ratio is high from the start, playing Sparta, and what contributes to my concentration of slaves is I hate buying slave markets early, I try not to buy any buildings that adds decadence. Another 80 turns on the ratio is 10/9. I guess over time by redistributing slaves the ratio improves. As long as you your loyalty about 50% it shouldn't be a problem.

Most of the Spartan population were helots ie slaves, so this is about right. Sparta gets some special abilities with slaves that other countries don't.

new Spartan pops are randomly citizen or slave (in your capital region), see last para of 6.3.5. The likelihood of either is the current ratio (remember that unlike other slaves the helots were allowed families) ... welcome to the core problem of the Spartan social system

hellenic slaves is the best population - only 3 unrest (citizen after 8 give more)
so you can easy grow sparta to the biggest city in the world without any loyality problems (especially if you give them some rights)

You are playing against the system. Do you think it is viable?

I never said my strategies were sound. Just how easy would this game be without decadence
