How Do You Grow??

As Lusitania, I nabbed an adjacent region, then another, then another, etc., slowly expanding like an ever-increasing blob.

I just wondered if that was the typical growth pattern. Or, are there any souls out there that nab whatever, regardless of how far away it is. I was thinking of Sparta. Instead of beating my head through the peninsula and up towards Macedonia, why not nab a couple regions in Italy or North Africa? Too difficult to protect? Has anyone managed something other than an ever-increasing blob?

Pretty suicidal to do that most times as if you have to siege a region your army is likely to starve if it cannot draw supply from a neighbouring friendly region. Any region that has decent food supplies in it is very likely to have decent fortifications

Haven't played Lusitania yet, where do you sit on the legacy/CDR ranking? what turn is it? I'm wondering if the bottom is going to fall out for you with quick expansion, decadence, unrest, wars, money, ect. Make sure the region is worth grabbing, some just flat out aren't worth it and will be like an anchor if you have to many of them.
