I can't see a way of conceding or indeed aborting, a battle I can't possibly win which I have no intention of playing.
I normally only FoG2 battles where the forces are balanced or it looks like being an interesting or challenging game. If one side or the other is clearly going to win I resolve it in FoGE.
Today in a long-running game I am enjoying I have invaded with an overwhelming force but the enemy must have also moved extra troops into the region. OK, I can cope with that, being outnumbered, I have a good well trained force with a decent commander so despite me thinking I will lose, the challenge should be fun. The power leves of the forces is 2 to 1 so worth a play.
Instead I find out I am severely outnumbered, but all my troops are severely demoralised for reasons I am not sure about, and all enemy units are superior. There is no way I am going to do anything other than to die horribly outnumbered in troops and in quality.
All I want to do is concede the battle. I accept the mistake and misfortune, and I am prepared to lose all my units, but I can't find a way of not having to play out a pointless and unsatisfying battle, wasting an hour or so of my very busy life and limited gaming time. I have looked at all the key and pointer options and can't find a concede battle option anywhere.
I am happy with a severe penalty for conceding, but playing through should not be required.
It is a disincentive to ever using FoG2 to play out battles that are not completely one sided in case you are caught out and punished this way for doing so.
How do I conceed a FoG2 game I wouldnever want to play?

In the top left hand corner of the FoG2 display there is a symbol like a hooked reversing arrow on its side......that should give you a surrender option it you click on it.

or open Empires and run the turn again from the save point - I'm not sure if you can skip around the load saved FoG2 game option
reasons for low morale are in the manual - worse leader, lost effectiveness points, poor supply are all modelled by reducing your unit morale, missing hit points are modelled by combining your units

The concede button is disabled for Empires battles in FOG2 because otherwise your army would retreat with no losses, which would be an effective exploit. (Yes I know we could code arbitrary losses if we decided to do so, but currently we decided not to do so).julianbarker wrote: ↑Thu Jul 25, 2019 7:30 pm I can't see a way of conceding or indeed aborting, a battle I can't possibly win which I have no intention of playing.

If you decide you don't want to play the battle in FOG2 after all, just close FOG2 (Esc, Quit) and go back to the pre-battle autosave in Empires, then let Empires autoresolve it.

FOG E told me I had lost a critical battle, so I went back and played it via FOG 2 - this was before I knew about the significance of commanders. The odds were 1:2 or 1:3. As a result I found that I was in a bad position, with most of my army downgraded to "raw". However the terrain was Hilly and I had a good number of medium and light infantry. I fought the battle three times and finally (by using the hills to defeat all the super pikemen) won - you can do that, save the game in FOG 2 at the start, then re-run it if you lose. It was a hard battle but great fun, seeing the superior pikemen walk up the steep and very high hill (300 difference or something like that) and be held back by not so super light infantry and medium infantry (and in some cases, raw hoplites). Also was able to mass enough of my average and raw pikemen on one flank with the help of a clear terrain hill to smash some enemy units before they could flank the hill. Not so much fun to see cavalry walking through marsh as if it wasn't there, though.

You don't even need to do that. If you click on the "Empires Battle" button again (without re-exporting the battle from Empires) it will generate the same map and auto-deployment each time.

That's what I did but it felt like cheating as the game resolved the battle and it was resolved as a draw when the only way of drawing in FOG would be to scatter round the map making it as hard as possible for my units to die and run out the clock.rbodleyscott wrote: ↑Thu Jul 25, 2019 9:51 pmThe concede button is disabled for Empires battles in FOG2 because otherwise your army would retreat with no losses, which would be an effective exploit. I would prefer the game allowed conceding with loses designed to encourage the player to fight out battles over concede. In my case I could not see how any result other than a long protracted and dull draw was possible.

I take your point, but the question is what does "Conceding" represent in a strategic situation? Presumably a retreat, but Empires does not allow a retreat without a battle first, and the army will only retreat if it loses.julianbarker wrote: ↑Fri Jul 26, 2019 5:48 pmThat's what I did but it felt like cheating as the game resolved the battle and it was resolved as a draw when the only way of drawing in FOG would be to scatter round the map making it as hard as possible for my units to die and run out the clock.

We could simulate it in a Conceded FOG2 battle, but it would need some playtesting to make sure that it could not be exploited compared with resolving the battle in Empires.
