AI Allies tend to disperse small armies everywhere

Post by kvnrthr »

I allied with Rome in one of my games and now they're putting small armies all over my territories. While it would be appreciated in threatened areas, they're garrisoning areas infinitely far from any fighting and are hurting their own ability to survive. Would like to see this behavior reduced.

Also wouldn't hurt to have some diplomatic options related to their armies. Maybe a diplomatic option to bring their units into our armies, or send our units into theirs, so that the alliance can work better. Subject to a percentage chance based on various factors, and for a limited time only of course.

I see exactly the same behavior with a small allied nation. They disperse their troops all over my regions away from the front instead of defending their own regions at the front. :?

Yes I complained about this during the beta testing and I still find it annoying - especially when two of my allies are at war with one another and fight it out in one of my regions!! The allied troops make it hard to grow my regions as they chew up my food. It makes it hard for you to go to war with your allies, as if you do so, you may find your regions taken over by those marauding previously allied troops!! Best thing to do is put your own troops in the allied regions while you are in period of peace so they chew up your allies' food!

The issue was noted, but admittedly others things were considered more urgent in the first patch.

I read out of this that it on the list and hope it will sooner or later be fixed. But I agree it is currently more a nuisance and no big deal, but might be different if I really want to rely on an Ally.

I even have not thought about the food issue. It is currently more like a Mafia approach. "We take your food and "protect" your province. But if you break the alliance we take the province" :D
So good idea to park own troops at the Ally in return.

Yeah it is weird to break an alliance. I stationed armies with all my allies troops, broke my alliance then broke the peace and knocked them out in a preemptive attack.

Can you look towards some more options for allies? I think it would be best to use it in the context of a decision system. In the decisions section, maybe have the option to borrow soldiers in exchange for some resource, or set an objective for them so the AI can focus its forces on a smaller front to greater effect, rather than spreading its soldiers all over.
