Opponent’s script does not match?

Post by Tresantes »

Hi
I have started a game with another player, and on my second turn was greeted by a message that said something like “This player’s scripts do not match yours. It is recommended you abandon this game and report on forum”
I was able to play my turn as normal - and here I am asking does anyone know what that means?

Likely they have modded the battle files.....suspicious in the extreme.....

Oh... I was wondering if it was just an issue with him using a sanctioned mod and it clashing somehow...
But if it means he is cheating...not cool.

A sanctioned mod would not clash as they do not alter the main game build at all.

Mods that do mod the main game build should not be used.

Unfortunately some people are not heeding this warning, and have altered main build files to, for example, alter the number of models displayed. Obviously this is not done with the intention of cheating, but it will alter the course of MP game because it will alter the number of calls to the RNG and thus result in the turn replay playing out differently from what happened during the player’s turn, and this will alter the actual game situation at the start of the next turn.

So no cheating is intended, but MP games are nevertheless messed up. Hence the warning.

Your best bet is to ask your opponent if he has made any mods, even if he believes that these are purely cosmetic, and ask him to revert to the vanilla build.

Accusations of cheating are unlikely to be correct, and are unlikely to be well-received!

I did ask him if he'd made mods but he hasn't answered or played again. I don't understand why anyone would want to make mods in the middle of the game. I had not thought he was cheating until you mentioned it but now I am suspicious. Is there a way you can check what has been changed?

I told him I had received this message, asking if he knew what it meant, and letting him know the message suggested I abandon the game.
He has taken another turn, but did not reply to my query.
I did my turn, and asked him to please tell me what he has modded, and that according to comments on the forum, even just modding the number of figures appearing can muck up the gameplay.
If he doesn’t say anything this time, I will indeed abandon the game.
