NOOB question: changing unit Highlight color

is there a quick and easy way to change the unit highlight color for things like units within a command...I'm having trouble resolving it...my screen doesn't look anything like the image on p61 of the ebok manual...my game is much lighter and harder to see...and I'm not colorblind...it just doesn't jump for me...this has actually been a stumbling block for me getting into this game...but I had to go ahead and buy Empires anyway....now I have to confront the highlight issue. help appreciated.

You can't change the highlighting without modding, but if the whole game is showing too light for you, you can adjust the gamma setting in the settings menu. (First click the small button at the bottom left of the settings screen - the tooltip says "More Options").

Note that gamma correction only works when the game is in Full Screen mode.
