Signed up. Doesn't seem to a place to say what you are signing up for, so I'm dropping this post here to let someone (hopefully) know that its for the Napoleonics.

Ta.

Maybe I'll replace those lost Mongols with something completely different...

Hello

I registered for the Napoleonic beta testing and I know that a fellow tester has had his draft rules - how long does it take to get at set?

I realy like both Naopleonic and Renaissance periods and can't wait to try the rules out.

I registered as well but no news other than me being added to the test group for the computer rules "Great Medieval Battles" which as I don't even play computer wargames is not a really any compensation to me or indeed help to that particular beta group. A figure man to the end am I.
It will be interesting to see if my gaming companion who also registered has been accepted particularly as he would be looking to use my Napoleonic figure collection as he has none of his own.

There have been a few testers selected for the inital checks.
Main thing for these testers to check is whether or not the rules make sense.
i.e. are they readable, do they make sense, can you even play a game with them?

There could be a world of difference between what we think the rules say, and to what they actually do say.

Rest assured, that after this initial round of testing, we'll be opening it up to a much wider group.

Terry, thanks for clearing up the present position. I will keep my fingers crossed that I make it for the next batch of testers and will not yet throw my toys
(or in this case Napoleonic armies) out of the pram.
Any idea on timescales before you move to the next step?

Well - it sort of depends on how good (or bad) the current set is.
At present there are some minor sections not complete, and of course we'll be taking great interest in the initial feedback - so it depends upon how much we need to add or change.

I thought the answer would be a little like the length of a piece of string so not too surprised at your answer. As a retired marketing manager with time on his hands and a lot of experience in vetting presentations and proposals for clarity and completeness, I would be pleased to offer my services if they would be of any use.

withdrawing from beta-test application

Post by TomMcC »

hi guys,

Could I please ask one of the moderators if they would withdraw my name from the Napoleonic beta-test applications. Thanks.

I originally applied for this at the suggestion of a couple of guys in our club, but on reflection I don't want to do any more playtesting. Apologies to John and Stephen of our club.

After some 40 years experience of playing Napoleonic board and figure wargames, and having probably played every major set of Napoleonic rules out there, I reckon I'm happy with the rules I have. Maybe when these rules are published I'll take a look at them, but for now I'm very happy where I am.

Apologies to all,
Thanks,
Tom

Not certain but I guess removing you from the list as such is not an option. Doing such things would just be to time consuming. If the 2nd and subsequent rounds of beta testing follows the pattern of the 1st round, you will eventually receive an email asking you to confirm you are still interested and available for beta testing. Simply do not reply to that mail and you will hear no more of it.

Hi all
seems that the distinction betwex b- testers and the newly announced "categorization" is a brand new policy - personally I doubt that the rules will be given to all candidates for b - testing (thus the careful phrasing I read "to a much wider group" and not to anybody) and I suspect that the "call to arms" for b - testing was a clever trick to test and see how people react towards the new idea - anyhow, I would like to receive the rules fot testin', but in case that I 'm ignored, I will not cry a river - there are many rule sets around 8)
