The round by round matchups do not look like they were all determined by scores.
Was there another method used?

If I'm not misreading the results completely it appears that player #6 in the ancients pool just narrowly managed to beat himself in the first round with 12 points, while player #4 managed to win over himself in the second with a massive 23 points...
