Ze Germans!

Post by fredrik »

I've been working away on a little pet project of mine - Early Germans - when I've felt the need to paint something a bit more drab and dull then my other ancient armies. Here are some pictures of a unit I based up yesterday, hope you like them! :)

The miniatures are a mix of Chariot and Feudal Castings and I have placed an order for a couple of bags of Old Glory germans to mix with Navigator for the next couple of units. I went for the medium foot option since I figured they wouldn't stand a chance frontally against any sort of opposition anyway (romans and various pike armies are the mode du jour among the ancients players at the club) plus it's quicker to paint.

They are very drab and dull, but they work. Nice job. I like the shields.

The question comes to mind though, is there some kind of "Medium Foot" THING going on in Scandanavia? You and Dal seem to be 'very keen' wrt MF  :!:

Beautiful figures, as always! The blue clothing works nicely with your cloak and shield colors.

Nice job.

Drab and Dull always works for me, I tone down almost every figure I paint to Drab and Dull as it takes the accent off my awful painting.

Many thanks, glad you liked them. I decided to do the clothing for the Germans in plain black and browns along with plain plank shields to differentiate them from my Gauls that are rather more flamboyantly dressed. I wanted these to look like the archetypal barbarians compared with their "civilized" western cousins. :)
