Panzer Corps 2 Demo Video Review

Post by martiniiirichard »

Slitherine I am posting a video below with my thoughts in the demo from a casual player. I would think you would want more feedback like that. It is easier this way then writing a dissertation on the forums. I receive no money for this at all.

I watched only the first two videos. In the first video I agree with your sentiment that the infantry are lacking something!. I would suggest that different postures or stances be displayed for various/particular actions.

For example...when no infantry action has yet been taken, and the infantry are still not tasked with operations, they could stand up like pretzel sticks as initially indicated...showing you that they are 'at the ready'...still waiting for instructions. When finally given orders to proceed with an assault, they could then change their icon image into a characterized illustrative depiction/stance of being slightly hunched forward with rifle and bayonet projected out front of the infantry unit....indicating that an assault action is now in progress. Finally, when the target assault objective is reached, again their depicted illustrative stance could change once again...with them either standing up or on their knees with their rifle projected straight out in a forward position with gun-fire flashes/guns blazing...indicated by rifle fire flashes from the tips of their rifles along with accompanying rifle fire or machine gun sound effects as would be suitable. Once the objective is taken, then...perhaps having the infantry-man standing up straight with one arm outstretched holding his rifle as it rests on the ground...indicating that all action points have been used up and that the infantry-mans actions for this turn are now fully completed.

I'm pretty sure they've said infantry are just placeholders.

It's why they get so little focus and are often swept under the rug still. Like zero of the screenshots on the Steam store page show any infantry anywhere.

So extensive feedback on the problems with infantry... got to say I don't think it's helpful. Because its current state is not at all indicative of the final product.

That said, the louder we are about it, hopefully the more motivated they are to really do a good job with their actual implementation. ;)

Most of my critique was not focused on infrantry. But if they released the game with infantry as is eyebrows will be raised. I think there are other things to focus on from the demo and I put more focus on what was clearly emphasized. I am sure the 3D and extra tactics material is what they want to hear more about.

Thanks for the great video.

From your VO I'm not sure you've read many of our comments so I'll just reiterate and make a few new ones..

1/ the infantry are placeholder. We had placeholder units in earlier screen shots and we got a lot of complaints so we took them out of subsequent ones. Then we got more about there being non! The demo video was the first time we'd shown any gameplay and we figured it would be viewed by new players. They read the forums less than regulars don't and we knew we had to put the placeholders back in so they were at least aware of the infantry content. So yes.. infantry are being worked on now so should be ignored until some time during or after the beta.
2/ the mini map (the strategic map is a different thing entirely) was not complete in the demo. Its main role is to allow you to quickly navigate to different areas of the map though it can also give you a general overview.
3/ the ambush you saw was a tiny recon vehicle against a KV1 .. its not so much an ambush as a bump in the road so no dramatics. If it had been a Tiger or a battery of AT guns, different story.
4/ We haven't decided on the bridging units yet .. they might become bridges, they might have a floating icon .. either way, they're temporary.
5/ FX still require a lot of refinement.
6/ Options .. oh lord there are so many options.

Sorry. No one reacts well to being shouted at. :(

However, intelligent, thought provoking comment and critique IS listened to.

Yea I meant louder by volume, not by volume.

Nope that still didn't clarify it very well.

I meant louder by volume (many, many people saying the same feedback, meaning it's not an isolated case or opinion) and not by volume (one person SHOUTING REALLY LOUDLY)
