Early Picts

Post by jonmac »

have there been any errata to the Early Pictish list?

I notice that the starter army example in theList Book does not have the minimum 32 spearmen prescribed in the list.

If this 32 base minimum is correct, this is a very different balance to the army than previous lists.

Wondering about the rationale for this, and any comments on how they might perform on the field.

Also interested how they will translate into the next period, presumably in wolves From the Sea, as prefeudal scots?

The 32 base minimum is correct - the starter army is a bit of an oops

You can assume that if there is a discrepancy between the starter list and the actual army list that the latter is correct.

I've used them a couple of times and they have been used by a few people in competitions. They work far better in period. Playing against other armies from the Legions Trumpet book. I like them. They are exciting, but suffer a bit from shooting. So you need the IC umbrella and a LF screen. If they don't get disrupted in the impact phase they are very good.

That was my impression--Early Picts would be good "in book." Have you used lch with them, and if so, how did they fare?

Thanks,

I've used LCh in an ancient British army and they fared better than you would expect based on their (lack of) POAs. I normally screen them from shooting with LF as they can be a bit vulnerable.

what about small battle groups of caledonians( 6 bases, I think) to support the spear and find flanks. Might be wishful thinking with undrilled foot however.
I also thought about the Saxon ally which gives you a couple of 4 base superior impact HF groups.
