Expansion

Post by david53 »

Hi There
Not got my rule book handy just thinking about expansion

If a 12 base Pike unit in a two base frontage 6 base deep wish to expand to a three base frontage and four deep can they do it! I know they can expand by up to two base frontage but can they fill up behind.

Yes, the procedure (loosely expressed) for expansion is take 1 or 2 bases and put them in the expanded front rank positions, then move all the other bases around as necessary to make the formation legal.

You expand your 'frontage' by 1 or 2 bases.

On a related matter, I've never quite fully understood the rule, can an 8 base pike block run around with 3 ranks to front and 2 to rear? How much of a rectangle do you have to be to be valid?

Only the rear rank can contain a different number of bases to the front rank. So in your example I think you are OK. An 8 could be 3,3, 2; but not 4, 2 ,2 as the centre rank has a different number of bases to the front. It could be a 5,3 as only the rear rank has a different number.
