Skins stuff

Post by PoorOldSpike »

In this top pic I've plonked some units on the map in a Desert scenario I'm creating, but how can I give them sandy coloured camo?

Image

Below is a screenshot from the stock Sandstorm> Halfaya Pass, some of the Germans are sandy, so how can I import them into the Editor?
(The Allied units in Halfaya are dark green so I presume they can never be given sand camo?)

See this link/screenshot how to assign skins to units:

Use can use triggers in the editor and/or add new skins, too ( same thread).

Thanks mate, I saw the thread but it runs to 15 pages of pure geekery and scared me off.
If there's 3 things that terrify me it's computers, the police and women.
I'll try to psyche myself up to wade through it later after I watch the Waltons- "Granma is worried because her new canary won't sing", hmm the storyline sounds good..

The best way to learn is to edit existing scenarios

This is the trigger effect you're looking for.

Thanks mate, I'll have a crack at it.
Incidentally, what effect does the "Aggression" rating have on AI units?
Why don't we simply leave it set on the maximum 100 so that we get a good hard fight?
What reason is there to set it lower such as 75 or 50 etc?

"Aggression" = 100 => Kamikaze ?

Aggression level of say 75 works ok for Japanese (and other attack-minded factions) as a general setting.
I've also used it for specific AI-teams in some scenarios whenever the situation warranted it.
Similarly you could give the ie the Italians a lower aggro level than the default 50.
Setting it at 100 for all AI teams in a scenario means the AI will act bull-headed and probably not be the best opponent.

Regarding the stock vanilla skin choices (7.1.6), quite a few of them don't seem to work.
For example this Crocodile is in standard dark green, and when I click its info tab {pic 1) I get the choice of assigning 'Sand' camo or 'Overgrowth' camo to it.
I select 'Overgrowth' and 'confirm' (pic 2), but when I return to the game (pic 3) it's still dark green.
Am I doing something wrong? (sniffle)

No there are some vehicles in the Japanese, British and American lineup that changing skins doesn't work.
German vehicles got all the love so they work.

Thanks, yes, we have to find out which other units can be given new skins by trial and error.
For example in this Jap vs Brits scenario of mine I found out that the Sagyo flamethrower (right) and the AA truck (top left) can be given snazzy new skins..:)

PS- the Sagyo (below) is definitely not something I'd like to meet on a dark night, and it'd win Robot Wars hands down-

As far as I can tell, no, unless there are mods around that I haven't heard of.
It seems only vehicles and guns can be given new skins, for example the Germans have 3 choices- Default grey, Sandstorm, and Desert snakes as in the examples below-
