Invisible fighter escort?
Here's an odd one.
The German bomber obviously has some guarding angel over the US truck.
But there is no German fighter hovering over the truck. The British fighter to the left is able to move onto the truck.
And the Canadian fighter cannot switch target to the invisible enemy.
So why the red cross indicating some protection?
Custom multiplayer game, so no save available.

Re: Invisible fighter escort?
A few probing questions-
1- What's the Ju88 bombing?
2- Does the Canadian fighter engage the Ju when it drops its eggs?
3- And does any AA fire or invisible fighter fire come out of the truck's hex?
4- If you were playing against a human, he might have tweaked something to disguise his AA gun as a truck.
5- Is it a scenario that I can load into the editor to analyse in my laboratory?

Of course, it is late 1944 and lots of nice specs available for all playersGabeKnight wrote: ↑Mon Mar 18, 2019 12:24 pmA quick control question in advance: you've got some of those "lost specs" activated in the scen by any chance?
You're probably on to something.
But we've played quite a few turns in this scenario and it only popped up now.

Here's the link to the scenario, 2v1 From Bulge to the Rhein.

Re: Invisible fighter escort?
Sorry, on second thoughts it's impossible for me to reproduce the exact same bit of the action, but if you can answer questions 1/2/3/4 in my earlier post it might give us some clues.
PS- have you asked your opponent to explain it?

I'm not that sure anymore. I've checked, and the only one of those unsupported specs in there is, again, the Brit. "Bomber Stream" spec. All I know it doesn't work as intended, but it should only affect adjacent strat. bombers - British strat. bombers. I'd still suggest to remove it, but who knows, could be a whole different issue, actually.Erik2 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 18, 2019 3:10 pmOf course, it is late 1944 and lots of nice specs available for all playersGabeKnight wrote: ↑Mon Mar 18, 2019 12:24 pm A quick control question in advance: you've got some of those "lost specs" activated in the scen by any chance?![]()

And to narrow the issue down a bit, it would help to know the answer to POS's question #3 indeed.
And god I hope question #4 is NOT possible in any multiplayer game, or is it? Can two players have different unit.csv files?
Re: Invisible fighter escort?
1) No clue, I didn't watch the replay that closelyPoorOldSpike wrote: ↑Mon Mar 18, 2019 1:25 pm A few probing questions-

2) Dittto
3) Ditto
4) What do you mean by a player tweaking a non-modded multiplayer game? Anyway, doubt it.
That probably didn't help much
I'll pay more attention my next turn.
I had some other graphic issues this turn, wrong strength displays on a couple of fighters.
Edit: Just watched the playback of the next turn. Nothing odd other than my British getting a whupping from the Germans
So maybe it was only a few glitches last turn.

Re: Invisible fighter escort?
I'm not saying the opponent was definitely cheating, but sadly I learnt early on in my computer gaming career almost 40 years ago that there are cheaters around in every multiplayer and PBEM game I've ever played, usually because they've hacked into the game to tweak it, I could tell you stories.....
if that "invisible fighter" thing happened to me, I'd definitely ask my opponent for an explanation to see what he said, then take it from there.

Re: Invisible fighter escort?
I've played several games with these guys, I trust them.

Re: Invisible fighter escort?
Well just ask the guy about the invisible fighter and let us know what he says..
PS- I used to play Kampfgruppe against a Brit territorial army guy and trusted him until I caught him blatantly cheating. His pathetic excuse was "I have to cheat because you usually win".
Re: Invisible fighter escort?
Well, that excuse is kind of flattering.PoorOldSpike wrote: ↑Tue Mar 19, 2019 10:25 am PS- I used to play Kampfgruppe against a Brit territorial army guy and trusted him until I caught him blatantly cheating. His pathetic excuse was "I have to cheat because you usually win".
You mean the good old Kampfgruppe by SSI?

Re: Invisible fighter escort?
Erik I am not sure are those two things related but German player gets some number (not all) of planes in Reserve that cannot be deployed even if there is enough AirCP. Some of those planes were below 10 strength. It was the last batch of air reinforcements. I had to kill them in reserve and reform them to be able to deploy.
Re: Invisible fighter escort?
uran
I have already decided to take another look at the air units in Bulge/Rhein.
I removed a number of units and renamed others in the version we are playing. This probably screwed up the withdrawal triggers (there are a number on the Luftwaffe side).

I did, too, though with C-64. And also its sister games Battlegroup (western front) and Mech Brigade (Cold War). Ah, those golden times.PoorOldSpike wrote: ↑Wed Mar 20, 2019 12:04 amYes in the 1980's for the Amiga (below), I spent countless hours playing it mostly against the computer, totally mesmerised..![]()
