stating Byzantine dismounted archers have ditch to protect them?
I searched in Procopius work but found none to show archers have the ditches.

Hi melm,

In Medieval Warfare Magazine (vol VI, Issue 3, page 20) their maps of the battle show the Byzantine archers protected by lines of stakes. Now I don't know where they got that information from, I don't remember reading it in Procopius, but from the point of view of making an FOG2 scenario it made a lot of sense. After all, how will a line of dismounted archers stand up to a vast horde of Gothic lancers without some help? We don't have stakes in FOG2, so to I used ditches as the next best thing.

cheers

Belesarius used ditches at Dara in 530 so it is perfectly reasonable that given time to prepare the position, Byzantine armies of the period would use ditches and other defensive impediments.

Thanks Paul! It's a pity that I have no access to Medieval Warfare Magazine.

We have stakes in Sengoku Jidai. I suppose it could be imported to FOGII?

Actually those aren’t stakes.
