Battle Crash

Post by Bercor »

Hey, I would like some help with some crashes I'm having while in battle.
Let me just start by saying I bought Fields of Glory II in early January and have been playing it without problems till two days ago. Suddenly, I get a recurrent crash in every battle I try to play. And when I say every battle I mean, in every campaign battle, a custom battle or even an epic battle, I tried them all. The inevitable crash occurs sometime during the battle, I can be playing for one hour or be just 10 minutes in, it varies a lot. I took a screenshot of the error:

I have three mods installed (Riseofthe AI, TT and The Small Mass Effect Mod), however I really doubt thay have anything to do with the crash because, as I've said, they've been working fine since january. However, just to be sure, I reinstalled FoGII, tried a vanilla game and still get the crash every damn time.
I would be really grateful if someone could help me. Thanks in advance.
Cheers

as you haven't mentioned which version you own, eg site or steam, and tbh anything could be the issue with a mod, so best advice is to so a clean install without any loaded, on steam or site version and once after patched, keep playing and see how it goes, and then once you know it's not either hardware or driver related on your pc, as updates come and break stuff, that's life, add one mod, and not any more, as tbh no one will know if more than one mod will or could cause errors with more than one working, unless it's made by the same modder, and says by them it's been tested in the version number your on and together, apart from that, then don't, as no modder also knows what another one is doing, or has altered, so adding 3 no matter how many times it's worked and now doesn't is just asking for trouble

The error message shown suggests that there is something wrong with your script base. Either your game build is corrupted, or scripts in the mods are incompatible with the current version of the game.

As Zakblood says, you need a fresh install (making sure everything is deleted from the folders), and also delete the Mods, as the problem may be that the versions you have are not script compatible with the current version of the main game.

Note that uninstalling will not remove mods that used the in-game download system, as these are held elsewhere, in

/Documents/My Games/FieldofGlory2/CAMPAIGNS

/Documents/My Games/FieldofGlory2/MODS

/Documents/My Games/FieldofGlory2/Multiplayer

To be safe you should empty these folders.

Once you have the game reinstalled, and everything working correctly with the vanilla game, you can try reinstalling the mods, but make sure to use a version compatible with the current version of the game. The latest version of TT mod (1.5.3) is available here:

viewtopic.php?f=477&t=89442

The current version of RiseOfAI is available for in game download.

The mass effect mod is not an approved mod, as (I think) it alters the main build, which is deprecated.

First of all, thank you both for your replies.

I own the steam version of the game (1.5.3, latest patch). I tried again reinstalling (including deleting those folders in /MyDocuments but the problem still persists in vanilla FoGII! It's mind-boogling how a game which was performing so well suddenly stops working. Here's the screenshots of the last two errors I had:

This seems to be a problem with the main script, as Richard says, but I can't understand why, since I've already re-installed the game two times now. I can show you the error.log if you feel that could help.

Yes please. Immediately after the crash.

Can I just check a couple of things:

1) Have you gone in to your STEAM library, right clicked on the game, selected the Local Files tab and clicked "Verify Integrity of Game Files"?

2) Have you checked in game that no Global Mod is set. (Button at bottom left of main screen)

Yes, I checked the integrity of the game files (every file was verified) and was playing with no global mod in game.

Thanks.

I have asked the maestro Pip to take a look at this.

So, I think I finally found the culprit! I remembered that I installed the latest Nvidea driver a few days ago, so I tried to revert back to the previous driver and boom: the error is gone! played three battles just to be sure. Seems like Nvidea GeForce Driver 418.91 has a small problem with FoGII, at least in my laptop. Thanks again for your help.
