Elephant Attack Bug?

Post by Morbio »

I'm playing a PBEM battle and it seems that elephants can rotate 90 degrees and then attack and this seems like a bug to me. Am I correct?

Here's the screenshots;

The first pic shows your cav and elephant are already in melee. Perhaps you charged the flank of the elephant?

If it is the case, then it is not the elephant turns 90 degrees then attack. It just turns to continue the melee.

All units turn the nearest models to fight a flank attack. As elephants (and chariots) only have one model, they do turn to face, although the unit banner will not turn until the unit's next turn.

Also note that clicking the Fight Melee icon does not constitute an attack, it is just telling the game when to adjudicate the ongoing melee for the turn. If you don't click it at all, the melee will get adjudicated automatically at the end of the turn.

My cavalry hadn't attacked either of the elephants, it just finished it's turn adjacent to them. That's why they aren't facing the cavalry at the start of the turn. So is this a bug?

Probably not, but we would need to know more about the situation to tell.

It looks to me from the first screenshot that although the elephant model is facing where it is facing, the unit banner is in fact facing the unit that was eventually charged. So what we would need to know are the events leading up to the first screenshot, to explain why the elephant model is not facing the same way as the unit banner.

The unit banner is the true indicator of the unit's facing. The model facing is just an animation, and can be misleading in single model units.
