I managed to defeat TGM's French with my Italians, 54-29, so I think

A tale of my massed keils overcoming TGM's better quality troops, while his cleverly placed artillery blew away my gendarmes.

The other game is exploding and will be decided soon, many keils fragmented the last time I looked.

My games with Dilly are ongoing...

Results suddenly in from my games with Dilly, where in both games respective keils get smashed up.

Dilly (Italian) won against ahuyton (French) - 50-20, so 9 points to 2
ahuyton (Catholic) wn against Dilly (Huguenot) - 41-13, so 8 points to 1

Result - a pleasantly egalitarian 10 points each.

Two interesting and pleasant games. I was particularly interested to see Dilly using light horse effectively, causing me a huge nuisance in the game that I lost. I again failed with my gendarmes and would quite appreciate some advice on how best to use them.

In the Italian wars pike are king. I use gendarmes to fight other gendarmes (preferably my superiors against his average) and charge massed arquebus and massed crossbows. Then if I can I get them to ride into the rear of enemy pike and rear charge them, but they are too slow to do this effectively.

You can use them to slow down enemy pike by sitting right in front of them (do not charge) and breaking off after impact when he charges you, but make sure they have lots of room to their rear to break off several times. Eventually your gendarmes will die, but they will hopefully have held up his pike long enough for you to win elsewhere. If you can get 1 gendarme in his front and 1 in the rear you will eventually kill it with alternate rear charges, but it is bloody hard to set up with such slow troops.


They are very vulnerable to shooting so charge solid shooters immediately, and keep them screened from light foot and guns.

After a trouncing by TGM , I have my revenge, well sort of, Dillys French Catholics defeat TGMs French Huguenots 41% to 70%

As TGM hasn't reported my humiliation, then I will, after battling bravely for what seemed an eon against superior forces, I had a flanking force arrive which never saw combat, with TGMs Italians crushing my French 18% to 51%

for the final round each player will play 2 games against each of the other players.

The battles are A/ Russians 1579-1580 against Zaphorisian Cossacks 1540-1629

B/ Scots 1494-1540 against Irish 1494-1533

C/ Teutonic Knights 1494-1542 against German Peasants 1524-1526

All battles are to be medium armies in Agricultural terrain. I am fairly certain all the armies are Version3, you will need to turn off the historical armies button for some of the matchups.
