Deployment

Just been re-reading rules this morning just noticed this:

Page 116

'.......All battle groups except those in ambush or on an outflanking march are deployed in the order listed in the order of march. The number of Battle groups to be deployed in each batch is pre determined as above. Battle groups in ambush or on an outflanking march are omitted and the next battle groups in the order of march must be deployed instead....'

Now reading this I could delcare on my army list my first batch is in ambush and the second is on an outflanking march and then lay out the remaining batches.

Therefore if i won the PBI I could let my enemy lay up to two batches before I needed to lay out the first on table batch. Is this correct? At the moment if doing outflanking march it is the last Batch the troops are taken from, but it dos'nt say that or can you do either?

This is the key part for me:

"the next battle groups in the order of march must be deployed instead"

I think you will deploy your first and second group in line with your opponent but you will deploy nothing to match his third and fourth groups.

Hi David

It would have been the romans but my partner realised he would be on holiday.

I have made a New Years resolution to get back to my martial arts class and that is on a Sunday morning. To stop too much conflict I have decided to stick to single player competitions and to try and enter maybe 5/6 each year. I hope to be at the Ascot BHGS in early April if you are there.

If there are any more 1 day events at Manchester I will try and get along.

Robert sent on the cheque for Comp and accomodation for ascot last week so will see you there. I'm not sure about York but I think I'll just do singles like you Ascot, Britcon, rollcall and maybe warfare, and any in Manchester.

Hmm I took the 'omitted' bit on flank marchers to indicate they were out of the equation for the setting up of the 4 deployment groups.

Otherwise you'd have the possibility of wanting to send 3 on a flank march but having too few BGs to have those 3 in a deployment group together.

As far as I can see, there is nothing in the flank march deployment rules that requires that all units in the flank march must be deployed as a group. You could have one battlegroup from the first group of them that are deployed and other battlegroups from the other groups that are deployed.

You have it spot on Dave.

If you have 12 and send 3 on an outflanking march you deploy 3,3,3,0. It's the same with BGs that are ambushing, you can put any of your BGs in ambush, you just shuffle your deployment list up and leave spaces at the end.
