A Single-Player Challenge

Post by Ludendorf »

Hey everyone.

Given the recent server issues and difficulties with multiplayer, I thought I'd post a fun little single player challenge I've been having difficulty with myself.

I have been unable to beat the Etruscans (earliest date) as the early Romans (490 BC date) on Deity level. I tried a weighted flank with my strongest soldiers and cavalry leading and my citizen hoplites held back at a right angle to my armoured and veteran hoplites, but the AI ultimately crushed me under sheer weight of numbers despite a promising beginning to the battle. The lower quality of my soldiers and higher quality of the enemy's didn't influence things that much in the end; both sides fought hard and I actually had quite good luck all things considered. So it must have been my technique that was lacking. :(

Can anyone here manage to win that match-up before I figure it out? I'll probably give it another crack tomorrow.

A nice but tricky challenge, to say the least.

I tried it, marching an all infantry army in columns against the enemy flank. At 20%-3% and then 30%-6% it was going well, but then I was surrounded and worn down. A lost general, a veteran armoured hoplite fragmenting etc gave the advantage to the AI and I finally lost 69-46, after a spectacular cavalry charge destroyed three of my hoplite units.

A lot of fun anyway. I guess you have to win fast or not at all given the imbalance in numbers.
