Game black screened?

I'm not very PC savvy, but the game seems to no longer want to launch, its stuck in a perpetual black screen and refuses to launch the game, any way to fix this?

Have you been changed something (...aka modding) in the game? Things like that can happen. It can be caused by a bad data file or missing file the data pointing at.

LM47, try this first: Delete the contents of the \My Games\Order of Battle - WW2\Settings folder (assuming that all you have in there are saved settings which you will merely need to reset). For some reason, this seems to resolve blank screen problems. Don't worry; the game recreates the contents of the Settings folder the next time you start the game and/or you change settings from default. Just in case, though, you may want to save a copy of the folder someplace. If this does solve your problem, don't save the copy because perhaps something in that folder was causing your problem in the first place.

I did delete the folder, but the problem is back once again, I did download one mod, but it has now given me the black screen twice, im going to save my game progress and try once more, I use the steam version of OOB.

Try re-installing a fresh copy of OOB, without the mod. If it works and then, when you install the mod, it goes black again, that's your answer perhaps. You don't specify whose mod but I generally steer clear of all mods, well-intentioned and well-designed though they may be. And by "mod," I mean those projects that change the basics of the game, not custom scenarios and campaigns.

while deleting the game file does fix the game, this is a reoccurring problem, don't know if its my poor laptop but it has a Core i5 processor. In any case I hope it doesn't become to common

might be a issue as you say with the laptop, upload a report and i'll check it if you wish?

How to get a DirectX Diagnostic file:

1. click on "START"
2. click "run"
3. type in "dxdiag" and click "OK"
4. check through the tabs and perform all tests
5. click "Save all Information..." and save the text file to a location of your choice

We prefer that DxDiag files be posted as message attachments rather than pasted into the body of the post.

You can also try to please try to rename the folder named "Order of Battle - WW2" as "_ Order of Battle - WW2" in your Windows documents folder:
...\Documents\My Games
Run the game and check if the issue persists.

Only time I get that "black screen" is when I click to return to the desktop. Usually once a day it does that and I have to hard start the PC. Guess I've gotten used to it.

Can you alt-tab to desktop when you're playing the game?

I did try that a couple of times but still get the black screen here and there.

Yes it is. I've tried it with it on and off and don't run Steam anyways. No big deal as I've gotten used to it.

a report may let us get to the bottom of it or at least give you some hints on what you could do, maybe they will work or maybe not, but worth the seconds it takes to upload one and let us try?

No crash reports when it black screens unless you know somewhere they might be but I kind of figure this issue will be resolved when the next update comes around. No worries.
