Re: 2018 Tournament
SnuggleBunnies (Royalist 1642) defeats Pixel (Parliament 1642) 16-41
So,
SnuggleBunnies: 8
Pixel: 1
The numbers don't capture just how close my infantry center was to total collapse. With most of my Pike and Shot units having only 50% Muskets, I had hurled them forward into hand to hand combat as rapidly as possible. That came at a cost, both in marching through fire, and hitting the +50 defensive POA of Pixel's attached light guns. Nevertheless, the Cavaliers swept away both flanks for the victory.

GDod's New model Army 1645 defeats TGM's 1645 Royalists 62/44
In another slug-fest of epic grandeur amidst the rollicking, rolling green hills of merry ole' England, now coloured red with the glossy translucent stain of the combatants sweated brow.

Oh! the calamity of brothers in arms ag'in each other and the littered remains of cared for homes and farms from centuries of toil...woe betide these rebel dreams of equality and fraternity lest the take root in the European soils of our sons and sons of sons...yet, woken from the General's slumber a premonition... of Frenchmen around a large meat cleaver has spilled out from these lucid dreams... Oh woe!

Re: 2018 Tournament
edb1815 Parliament 1643 and Aryaman Royalist 1643 fought to a standstill as both sides broke off. 62% v 60%
I believe this is a mutual break, in other words both armies hit 60% on the same turn. We got the break off message at the end of the turn with several turns left in the game. Even though my end screen said "glorious victory" this should be a draw as both armies broke. That's the way table top games handle it anyway.
After playing all the ECW games I would recommend not using large armies in future tournaments. The armies are too large for the map given the low points costs. One can almost strech a single line across the whole map and easily block flanking cavalry attacks and limiting maneuver. This sometimes occurs with miniatures games and certain armies are at a disadvantage. It can lead to ahistorical tactics and battles that don't resemble Edgehill, Nasby or Marston Moor for example.

Re: 2018 Tournament
I also agree that Large is not ideal. I usually play Medium, and, while that has occasional edge riding, it's not nearly as frequent. I suppose we could play with Medium armies on Large maps, but that seems unnecessary.

Re: 2018 Tournament
Aryaman (Parliament 1643) beats Pantherboy 44%-0%
10 pts -0 pts
10 pts -0 pts
Re: 2018 Tournament
Ebb1815 and Aryaman both broke the enemy army simultaneously, so both score 6 points.
So section 10 results are;
......................Aryaman...............Edb1815..............Pantherboy
Aryaman................0.........................0.......................9
Aryaman...………………..0...………………………….6...………………………..0
Edb1815...………………..10...……………………….0...……………………….10
Edb1815...………………..6...………………………...0...………………………..9
Pantherboy………………..0...………………………...0...……………………….0
Pantherboy………………..10...……………………...1...………………………..0
Totals...…………………….26...………………………..7...……………………...28
So Pantherboy advances to section 12 where he will play Dobri-i and YoungR
Aryaman advances to section 13
We await the results of the remaining 2 games in section 9 so we can play round 3.
So section 10 results are;
......................Aryaman...............Edb1815..............Pantherboy
Aryaman................0.........................0.......................9
Aryaman...………………..0...………………………….6...………………………..0
Edb1815...………………..10...……………………….0...……………………….10
Edb1815...………………..6...………………………...0...………………………..9
Pantherboy………………..0...………………………...0...……………………….0
Pantherboy………………..10...……………………...1...………………………..0
Totals...…………………….26...………………………..7...……………………...28

Aryaman advances to section 13

Re: 2018 Tournament
I am happy to change to medium armies. I prefer large armies, but its not a big deal.
Medium armies won't make the games quicker as they are based on % lost. Individual moves will be slightly quicker but battles will probably last the same number of turns as you have more units trying to break more units to get the same %.
The battles we fight here don't resemble actual ECW battles not because of the battlefield size but because of the way players use their armies. We mostly spread our armies out in a single line. ECW units were always deployed in 2 or 3 lines. At Edgehill the Royalists were outnumbered but instead of extending their line they deployed 2 lines deep and charged. At Marston Moor the Royalist infantry were in 2 lines, with 2 lines of cavalry behind them and the cavalry were in 2 lines, while the parliamentarians had both their foot and cavalry in 3 lines. At Naseby the vastly outnumbered Royalists still deployed in 2 lines rather than extend their line to try to stop the enemy outflanking them. Large bodies of cavalry being sent on outflanking manoeuvres didn't really happen, well not in the 3 battles mentioned
So if anyone who hasn't already expressed a wish for medium battles would like to do so, and anyone who wishes to stick with large armies would also express their wish I will gauge if there is really a groundswell for change before we start round 3.

Re: 2018 Tournament
I would like medium armies just because it takes less time to finish a turn, no other reason

Exactly and I was trying to replicate the multiple line approach without much successawesum4 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 17, 2018 8:28 am I am happy to change to medium armies. I prefer large armies, but its not a big deal.

Yes Good luck to everyone in the next round!
Re: 2018 Tournament
Aryaman,
Yes extra nations is a mod, its gives heaps of different armies that don't appear in the other campaign periods.
It's been ages since I downloaded it, but I think you go into the campaigns menu then click on the download community scenarios. Make sure you download version 3
