c versus a finished.

Dobri (Parliament 1642-43) decisively beat Pixel (Royalist 1642-1643) by 50% to 4%. So I think that is 10 points for Dobri (6 for the victory and 4 for the additional 10% breakpoints) and 0 for me.

The more numerous Parliamentarian shot swept the field clean. King Charles runs for the hills with Cromwell's Cavalry in hot pursuit. :)

NOTE: Looks like Dobri posted right before me. Therefore, this is the same battle result as his post above.

The battlefield had a stream running right across it. My centre and left were full of enclosures so I massed my cavaliers on the open right flank and advanced rapidly to combat with them and half of my infantry. He attacked aggressively on my left but they were held in the enclosures by only a few of my units. My cavaliers rode over his horse and those that didn't pursue off the field turned into his flanks and rear. A couple of cavaliers left in my centre charged into any his foot that disrupted and the pressure on his outnumbered foot broke his army before his victorious right could get involved
It was a good game, despite the result. The match-up is very interesting. In other games my Royalists are getting beaten up by parliamentary gunfire, so I think I got the tactics wrong here. Well, live and learn as they say, or not in the case of my servants of the crown.

In reply, a battered Royalist force under [GG]Dod in an epic struggle narrowly beats off the New Model army 59 to 60. The parliamentarian guns and incessant musket fire wrecked havoc on royalist horse and man alike. However, the tenacity of the cavalier cause joined forces with divine providence and delivered the traitors to a just end! God Save the King!

I've posted a format for a grand campaign starting on 1st November. Anyone interested, post your choice on the thread:- "The War for Europe and the Near East" It's designed for maximum flexibility and minimum commitment to undertake games [only one per month required [but more if you feel the urge]] Feel free to post your comments

News just in...

Game 1 - YoungR (Roundhead) beat ahuyton (Cavalier) 50-20, so 9-2 I think
Game 2 - ahuyton (for the King) beat YoungR (rebels) by 51-25, so 8-2 I think

Two good and very contrasting games.

Game 1 - a wide open terrain and a story of massed parliamentarian shot which ripped apart my weaker royalist foot. My horse were out on the flanks but got closed down by Richard's foot. He wisely kept his more vulnerable horse closely behind his line of foot, supporting them very well.

Game 2 - oddly, a wood in the middle of the battlefield seemed to make a big difference as it split both our forces in half and I was able to get much better match-ups. I was also helped by a handily placed hill in the centre which I occupied with medium and heavy foot. By winning in the wood I was able to get the victory before Richard's well marshalled right flank shattered my cavalry.

Excellent games! Funny that at the start of the games, I was more confident about game 2 than I was in game 1 but then after a few rounds they both went in different directions to what I thought.
This group will be close in points I think....

Cheers

My two games against YoungR are finished.

My early Parliamentarians beat his early Royalists 43% to 17%, so 8 points to 1.

His later Royalists beat my New Model army 44% to 16%, so also 8 points to 1.

The decisive scores don't reflect the toughness of the battles, both winning armies had many battered units who had stubbornly refused to break.

So there is only my remaining battle with Ahuyton to complete the section. All 3 players from the first section to post all its results advance to the 3rd round.....so get those battles finished gentlemen

ahuyton (Royalist) won against Awesum4 (Parliament), 62-48, so 7 points to 4

An exciting and close game as we both attacked aggressively at each other's weaker flanks. In the end it was a race and my pike and shot units were able to do enough damage to Andre's forces before his cavaliers swept through my centre. Very enjoyable game and not just because of the result.

Dobri (Parliamentarian, New Model Army) defeats Pixel (Royalist). 39% to 60%. So I think that is 8 points for Dobri and 3 points for me.

SnuggleBunnies (Royalist 1645) defeats Pixel (Parliament 1645) 5-45

So, 6 + 4 = 10pts for SnuggleBunnies

The Mostly Shot and Massed Musketeer units were crucial, along with a sizeable forest in the center of the map.

I have emailed those players (apart from Snugglebunnies and Pixel as I know their game is almost finished) who still have games to finish in this round asking that they complete them this week so we can move on to round 3. So any games not finished this Saturday will be declared draws and the points awarded for loses inflicted up till that time.

There are still 2 rounds of elimination battles and then the big final free for all. It concerns me that we may not get these completed before the end of the year.

TGM's 1642 Royalists defeated by GDod's 1642 Parliamentarians in a right ole' civil war slug-fest 68/37 TGM as always, a gentleman and a scholar...

Again, the firepower of my shamefully rebelling subjects against the rightful King, along with unlikely bravado and skill from the parliamentary horse won the day. As TGM observed, the large force selection for battles may have had a hand in the cavaliers poor showing in the tournament. The second game is closer but will more than likely end up he same result in one or two turns.

Suggestion: Andre, maybe we can get through the games quicker if we keep the subsequent rounds to medium forces ?
