Mounting Models
What would it take to mod some of the infantry models into cavalry? Example - i'd like to take the Veteran African Spearmen model and put it on the horse model from the new Cimmerian/Scythian cav unit.

Re: Mounting Models
As far as I am aware, this is not possible. The models have to be designed from scratch to include horses. Those that have (i.e. cavalry) may or may not be able to also be animated as infantry, depending on how exactly the riders were modelled.SmickeyMcgee wrote: ↑Wed Oct 03, 2018 3:36 pm What would it take to mod some of the infantry models into cavalry? But even then you would not be able to do it starting from the final models in the game.

TLDR: copy and pasting or painting textures.SmickeyMcgee wrote: ↑Wed Oct 03, 2018 3:36 pm What would it take to mod some of the infantry models into cavalry? Example - i'd like to take the Veteran African Spearmen model and put it on the horse model from the new Cimmerian/Scythian cav unit.
It depends on the models you're planning to edit but unless you can model, Uv, rig and animate I wouldn't consider editing the meshes. In fact yo'd need the original .fbx files which belong to Slitherine/Byzantine and are not released. The .s4f format is proprietry and not editable.
You could take a cavalry unit and change the riders textures to what ever you want by copy and pasting the colour, normal and spec/gloss maps from other textures, in your case the African Spearmen. You can be certain the Uv's won't match but you should be able to chop things up and rearrange them. Most modders don't seem to bother with the normal and spec/gloss maps so you can do the same. Infact if the normals aren't created with respect to the original mesh they can end up being reversed.
Likewise you'll find the mesh won't exactly match .. they'll have different helmet shapes etc. but its up to you whether you repaint or take textures from else where.
