SE(SS) GebJgR in '39?

Post by Erdoszb »

Hello,
I like to play the game as 'historical' as possible. In the Grand Campaign '39 the first SE units usually are gebirgsjägers however as far as I know the first SS GebJgR battalions were created in 1st of June 1942.

My question is the following: is possible modify the game to not offer mountain troops until the '41 campaign?

Thank you.

SE is not SS. SE = elite troops not necessarily SS.

Of course, however, I play it in this way so my original question is still open

You can easily do that. Open the equipment file (equipment.pzeqp) in the Data folder with Notepad, find Gebirgsjager and change the Available Date value from 27.5.1939 to 1.1.1941 or whatever value you want and then save the file. They will then not be available until 1941.

Hey, thank you very much, a perfect solution! :D

But... If I don't incorrectly remember, if you play the GC39 you will receive an SE Gebirgsjager unit as a bonus (with a +3  movement hero called Oleh Dir) when you occupy a town in the south part of the map when playing the Lodz scenario... This is coded in the scenario file, and you will be given that unit, no matter what date you put for it in the equipment file. To avoid this you have to open the scenario file in the Scenario Editor and manually edit that file to change that "prize" unit, to a, for example, a SE Infantry, SE Pioniere, or any other unit you may like. Or, you may just disband the unit immediately after it is "assigned" to your army.

Yes, Oleh Dir will still show up by the town of Zelow on turn 2 of the Lodz scenario (3rd of GC '39) as the regular 2nd Gebirgsjager. He is not an SE unit, but is a special hero. However, you can immediately disband him and, as you get no prestige during the scenario, you'll never know he was there. Conversely, you could move him into Zelow and then on turn 4 (having possessed Zelow for a turn) you can 'upgrade' him to Wehrmacht or any other infantry unit you like. He is a nice unit to have.
