Re: Sengoku Jidai tournament 2018 format and teams
Perhaps. I fear for our chances - the Ikki are a formidable army. We have required, expensive cavalry, yari that can't operate in woods, and our matchlocks are lights only... hmm.

I am less confident, maybe I chose too many superior troops in my army. It's hard to see how the mob will stand up to the Japanese quality troops, which are quite numerous in terms of units.

SnuggleBunnies (Uesugi) defeated LFDLM (Ikki) 30-55
A largely open battlefield left the advantage in the hands of the samurai, despite the skillful ambush and massacre of half of the cavalry at the very start of the battle.

Re: Sengoku Jidai tournament 2018 format and teams
I miss being able to examine both army lists, and the AutoFill button, from within the Force Selection screen like FOG2.
I'm curious to see the results when a 1,500 man unit with matchlocks fires at an enemy unit. I suppose that it will be proportionate to P&S if the enemy unit is large as well.

I believe only the front 500 men are firing, the rest are simply piled behind as reserves, which does at least help a little bit in melee

Yes, you are right: "In shooting and close combat, infantry units larger than 500 men fight only with 500 men, and cavalry units larger than 250 men with 250 men, the extra troops being mainly extra rear ranks. The extra rear ranks do, however, provide resilience." I mistakenly thought that the 500-man rule only applied to close combat.SnuggleBunnies wrote: ↑Fri Sep 07, 2018 3:05 pm I believe only the front 500 men are firing, the rest are simply piled behind as reserves, which does at least help a little bit in melee

Larger units ( meaning larger than the opponent) in melee that count as hw’s, sword or warrior do get an additional poa. It’s small, maybe 16? At least it’s the case in P&s

Re: Sengoku Jidai tournament 2018 format and teams
It seems that you don't have the ability alter the AI assigned commands of the generals like you can in FOG2. It might make sense since they are the feudal forces of an Ally General, but it does feel a little capricious. I've always disagreed with being able to choose the composition of your army while viewing the upcoming battlefield. In an ideal world I think that you should choose the army and makeup of the commands before seeing the battlefield, and then come up with a plan for your forces when your army arrives at the battlefield and you deploy them.

Yes I agree, and on the whole quite Historical I would say.w_michael wrote: ↑Sat Sep 08, 2018 4:26 pm I've always disagreed with being able to choose the composition of your army while viewing the upcoming battlefield. I do not mind the SJ AI sorting out the Commands, takes a lot of time sorting out the command and leadership structure in FoG2.

Re: Sengoku Jidai tournament 2018 format and teams
I'm using the exact same army compositions in each of my tournament games and the command structure is completely different in each one. Perhaps I should have placed the units where I wanted them, ignoring the command structure, and then keeping my mobile C-in-C nearby for the free turn bonus.KiwiWarlord wrote: ↑Sun Sep 09, 2018 10:34 amYes I agree, and on the whole quite Historical I would say.w_michael wrote: ↑Sat Sep 08, 2018 4:26 pm I've always disagreed with being able to choose the composition of your army while viewing the upcoming battlefield. Re: Sengoku Jidai tournament 2018 format and teams
I hope that the games are going well. I am playing three at the moment.
It looks as if Sillygoy is not joining in as he does not respond to messages, so we will probably just have to scrap those games.
Kiwiwarlord has suggested that we have an extra round where we reverse the current games so that we each play the other army list. I am in favour. What about the rest of you?

Re: Sengoku Jidai tournament 2018 format and teams
I can confirm that Warriors can charge enemy mounted, and the mounted suffers a cohesion loss if hit on the flank or rear while engaged on the front. This is different from FOG2 when mounted never takes a cohesion loss when flank charged by infantry.

Re: Sengoku Jidai tournament 2018 format and teams
Yes it gets rather confusing when playing all the different games, P&S,SJ & FoG2.
For those of us who play Table Top Wargames as well and using a conglomeration of Rule Sets for that, it all becomes a great blur at times.......
I hope it was not my Cavalry you were experimenting on ?
I can confirm that Light Foot can charge the Mob.
