Re: 500 AD global campaign - Turn 2 battles are up, new players always welcome
For people with multiple lists to choose from, can you choose lists, or do you have to go with the list closest to 500 AD?
Re: 500 AD global campaign - Turn 2 battles are up, new players always welcome
Got it, and the battle list is updated.I will play Yarlug against Liang with kongxinga.
I'd tend to require going with the list closest to 500 AD, or 506 in this case. It probably doesn't make a difference in most cases, and flexibility could add some variety, but with some lists (ie, the Romans) flexibility to choose earlier or later lists could give players too much of an advantage. For people with multiple lists to choose from, can you choose lists, or do you have to go with the list closest to 500 AD?
Just to note how army lists work: Each list has a time period, a tradition, and a location. Thus, the Seleucids would be a Hellenistic army from the 3rd century BC based out of Iraq/western Iran. Any Greek power with a capital in the Middle East in this time would probably be assigned the Seleucids, not just the Seleucid empire. I'm still tweaking the algorithm, though, so as a GM I occasionally do switches pre-battle if there's a weird outcome.
Re: 500 AD global campaign - Turn 2 battles are up, new players always welcome
I think Ill take the Rujulu versus Wei Battle as well. Proxy fights!
YUNZHONG: Yujiulu army (NPC, Rouran) to fight Wei army (Jomni, northern Dynasties) in Steppe
Yujiulu victory results: LootsProvince Conquers
This means a total of three battles, all between me and Jomni for me this turn. Ill set it up if Jomni hasn't already.
1. CHU
Northern Dynasties (Wei, Jomni) vs Chinese (Liang, Kongxinga) in Mediterranean Agricultural
Wei victory results: LootsProvince
2. KHAM: Chinese, southern (Liang allies) vs Qiang (Jomni, Yarlung allies) in Temperate Mountain
Liang victory results: LootsProvince
3. YUNZHONG: Yujiulu army (NPC, Rouran) to fight Wei army (Jomni, northern Dynasties) in Steppe
Yujiulu victory results: LootsProvince Conquers
------------------------
I've set up the last battle.
****Deleted these two battles since Jomni has them up
For battle 1 I am using the earliest Northern Dynasty List (Wei 380-535 AD) versus Chinese (Southern Qi) since that was the Chinese I used before. Should I be using Chinese Liang (503-5??) or Chinese Southern Qi?
For battle 2 the Chinese South is Qi as above (not sure if correct) while the Qiang are anachronistic (existed till 300 AD iirc). I used mediterannean mountain as terrain since I could not find a temperate mountain. Is the Qiang the right list?
************************** Never Mind!
Battle 3 should be correct with the later Rouran list versus Northern Wei.
Never mind, Jomni has them set up correctly.

Re: 500 AD global campaign - Turn 2 battles are up, new players always welcome
Oops - for "temperate" I meant "Northern European." But Mediterranean should do fine.
The game had the Chu battle as southern Qi, but Liang is probably more appropriate. Sometimes the army list-switching algorithm takes a few turns to kick in, depending also on where the capital of the realm is. (Certain lists are associated with certain provinces.) Anyway, however you started it, continue with that!
I use Qiang for a few centuries past their limit. I don't know what Tibetan armies from this period were like, but I'd suspect more like bands of medium infantry mountaineers than the later imperial forces with their heavy foot and cavalry.
Anyway, sounds like you have that all squared away. Sorry for the confusion!

Re: 500 AD global campaign - Turn 2 battles are up, new players always welcome
I didn’t specifically create Tibetans in the mod so Qiang is the closest based on race. But not necessarily the army. Nevertheless it should do for now.
Anyway the Southern Qi and Liang lists aren’t too different. Suggest using the Southern Chinese list that is appropriate for the evolving timeline. Liang Dynasty started in 502 and we are in 506 already.
Battle of Amdo, another Qiang vs Qiang fight has not been confimed taken by Kongxinga...

Ludendorf (Romano-British) defeats rexhurley (Anglo-Saxons) 50-11% for Bernicia.
I'm starting to appreciate just how dangerous the Romano-British list can be - particularly on the defensive on rough terrain.

I've taken the Amdo battle for yet another Qiang middle match, fighting Jomni.
Jomni, I've set the game up. Password should be the same.

MAGNA GRAECIA: Byzantine (Rome, RexHurley) to fight Ostrogoths garrison (Kabill) in Mediterranean Hilly
Roman Empire victory results: LootsProvince
The forces defending Magna Graecia show themselves to be of sterner stuff than those involved in the Dacian disaster, putting flight to the Byzantine raiders with with the assistance of skilled bow-work. End result 16-43

Hello, interested in joining if there is room ( or if anyone is retiring ). I admit, I have read the thread but really don't understand the game flow. Do the players use the software and submit files to you ( Nijis)? Or do you run the software and just generate the battle based on random or player submitted orders via PM?
Re: 500 AD global campaign - Turn 2 battles are up, new players always welcome
Hi Mouser - there's definitely room! Rome and the Sassanids are open if you want a major empire, and there's also the Hunas (a steppe empire in India), the Guptas and Pallavas in India, the Vandals in Africa, the Rouran Khaganate, and a few others.
How it works...
1) I put up a the savegame of the latest turn. Players download it, give orders in-game and save an orders file, and send that to me. This usually takes five days to a week, I think.
2) Once all the orders are in, I run the turn on my game. Then I announce where battles are fought, and the players play them out. This usually runs about two to three weeks.
If you have any difficulty with the game you can just DM what you want to do.
We're just finishing up #2, with maybe a week's worth of battles to go. If you want to download and see how the app works, I can help you set that up.

Sounds good thanks. I'll take the Romans ( I assume actually Byzzies)? but if there is a gap of human players on the map to the east I could also take the Hunas ( HUns lists used??) if you prefer. Cheers!
Edit: or Ostrogoths as it appears that is now open too.. Actually whatever you think best if you need a human somewhere in the mix haha

It's worth noting that I will sadly have to withdraw from the game following the conclusion of this turn, as I have things ramping up at work which are going to preclude any kind of regular play. I'm really very sorry about this - I'm hoping that with the AI support it won't be too disruptive, but it does also mean Ostrogoths will be available for play if someone wants to take them.

Hi Kabill - sorry to lose you, but it should be fine! The system does make it fairly easy to replace players, and also there's been a lot of takers for the NPC battles, which is great.
GreyMouser - if you wanted Romans that would be great. They run about three to four battles a turn. If that's too much, feel free to take Ostrogoths or anyone else.
There's a Roman-Sassanid clash going on right now in Assyria, if you want to hit the ground running. I'd take the Persians. If not, I can auto-resolve and then you'd take things up next turn.

Let’s rumble!( if you could be so kind to set up as I have no idea what lists, size map type etc)Nijis wrote: ↑Sat Sep 22, 2018 9:15 pm Hi Kabill - sorry to lose you, but it should be fine! I'm quite happy to take an NPC role in any battles requiring an opponent. It's a good way to use lists I otherwise wouldn't pick to play

Byzantine vs Sassanid is up for GreyMouser (password Assyria).
Shadowblack - you could take either side against me or Mouser in this one:
Sassanid vs Kushan in Middle Eastern Hilly (Samarkand)
