Can we edit saved games?

Post by GBISSET »

Aggressors looks like it could be used as the campaign piece of an overall minis or pc tactical system (like FOG) But it is necessary to be able to edit saved games (as you can in ageod text save files). Can you do that?

Another suggestion I make to makers of these games is if possible, you should put in a mechanism for players to do this, as does Danube and Empires in Arms, where for each battle the player is offered the option to do it in another system, and then plug the results back into Aggressors.

Either of these possibilities could lead to much greater use/sales.

Saved games are indeed editable. Take a look at the .ag files in the saves folder.

Interesting... like gbisset I’m too am always on the lookout for a game that’ll facilitate a campaign using a third part system for tactical battles.

Any limits on map sizes? # of nations when using the editor/modding?

The scenario builder has limit of 6400 tiles. It is artificial limit because we want people to create just such maps which will work on all the PCs (bigger the map higher the PC power required).

If you edit the file, you can get bigger maps if you want (the limit is basically checked just when creating new scenario or when generating new map).
There is no limit of how many players can be in game, but all the players for new scenarios and generated maps are "taken" from the campaign map (there is 20 players). If you want more, you would need to add them yourself (including banners, coat of arms, setting player colour, etc).

You can edit a savegame to your liking and eventually export it as a standalone scenario in the editor. (So you can choose sides for example).
