Why Makedonia and Atigonid.

Post by Ivanaikos Magno »

Hello,

I have bought this game, played for hours and loved him. But there is something that I cannot understant. Why the Antigonid and the Makedonians are two separeted factions? I I have thought that the Antigonid were a makedonian dinasty.

It's difficult to include all the various dynasties in Greece and Asia Minor after the death of Alexander, because of the scale of the Ancient Med map. So the developer had to make some choices. Early on Macedonia was called Lysimachus - another of Alexander's heirs. But the decision was made to go with Macedon, in the time frame of the scenario. The Antigonids were a more long-lived dynasty, so were given their own area.

The developer will have to answer in more detail, if needed.

gwgardner actually covered it. Basically, there were many heirs to Alexander the Great who fought against each other. The eastern part of the Balkans was then ruled by Ptolemy Keraunos if I am no wrong who called himself king of Macedon and Thrace, yet Antigonids also wanted to be called the Macedonian kings as a reference to the old great empire. The situation around 278bc changed very fast and considering the scale of the map, we had to make some compromises. Originally, what is now called Macedon was Lysimachus as we wanted to avoid the use of Macedon for only one of the states. But a) Lysimachus was already dead in 278bc and b) other players "complained" about this and so we decided to change it to Macedon. The Antigonids deserve to have their own faction as they did live longer and managed to conquer the area later on. I hope this explains it a bit more :)
