Core faction vanishes

Post by Erik2 »

On the very last scenario of a new custom campaign the Wehrmacht faction is not displaying.
It may have something to do with introducing a new AI faction (Japan) that is not allied with any other factions.

This issue is present when running the scenario from the editor.
So it seems the campaign editor is 'innocent', there must be some bug in the scenario file.

I have linked the scenario here if anyone wants to take a look.

Yeah, yeah, I'll be the "anyone" again...
I don't know how you do it, Erik, but you manage to reveal the oddest errors...

Here's the fix: delete that one

Nice map of India, BTW. While at it, this looks like a nice land/air/naval combo map, so I'll give it a go, if you don't mind... :)

Never mind how I manage to find the oddest bugs. It has been part of my real life work for 20 odd years.
But how in the world do you manage to fix these bugs? ?

Anyway, thank you!

Edit: you need to add a lot of resources to purchase units

Methodical. Scen seemed okay, so I removed anything "suspicious" until the error was found. You're welcome. :)

Played the scen, and it was really good. One of the most difficult scenarios I've ever played coming from you. Great naval part! Of course, I had no core force and had to add a ton of money to account for all the command points available. Additionally, my units had no experience... they lose efficiency so fast with no stars...

Still, as always, some suggestions

- you forgot to check the sec. obj. "do not lose capital ships" as "complete" from the start, the "fail" trigger seems okay
- I think it would look better, if the "Japanese Intervention" checkbox would appear next to the newly spawned units together with a one turn "reveal area", so the player knows, what's about to happen
- the Japanese are unsupplied from the start. Either spawn a "static" unit DIRECTLY on the supply hex or use the "change hex ownership" trigger (see screenshot)
- also, the Jap naval/airforce has no AI team assigned
- If possible, add some deep water passage between India and Sri Lanka, it's wasted turns going around with my slow battleships
- This time I would actually increase the RP/turn for the player. It's quite the tough battle

And I'd change the objective logic a bit:

a) Either increase the turn limit and make the player take all VPs mandatory or
b) include the "destroy all tanks" sec. obj. into the primaries (and increase the turn limit a bit, too)

Here's my reasoning for this: It's very much possible to achieve the prim. objective as it is now, but with them last three tanks hiding in the eastern corner at Myeik, I have to cross the whole map to achieve the secondaries. But I've chosen to take the mainland India first, before advancing further east (Bangladesh, Rangoon). That way I would have taken 10 VP, and thus won, long before I could reach the last few tanks. And it's really hard not to win like this ( I had to circumvent most of them, not using roads, just slowing me down :) ) and to achieve all the secondary objectives - so I've added me some turns (40 -> 47) to see it through...
(BUT I don't know how the "Jap intervention" may have changed things, though...)

Anyway, it was a superb scen and I'm looking forward to the campaign. Thank you!

Thanks for the feedback.
I've fixed the issues, changed some other stuff and addedthe various briefings.

There will probably be 24 scenarios from Rommel's arrival to the battle for India.
If the player wins at Alam Halfa, the campaign branches to the Middle East.
If he loses, it branches to El Alamein and then the defensive battles to Tunisia.

I'm currently playing through the campaign making adjustments.
Only on battle #4, so it will take some time before being ready to publish.
