declaration of troops and army

Post by expendablecinc »

Hi All,

It may not be a rule as such but in comps what do you required players to declare prior to initiative dice:

army, date, special campaign?
what army type it is if there are variations available to the list?
(eg lancastrian vs yorkist or various successor CinCs)
do you just say classical greek or do you say thessalian?
What about if there are certain troop types available only if the CinC is a certain character or bakground (eg the Emperor/Khan)

When troops are deployed what must be declared:
type and qualities are obvious but what about carried but not deplopyed protable obstacles?

Here in GB it is conventional (and sometimes required by comp rules) to declare your army in detail e.g. Wars of the Roses English, Yorkist Pretender, 1485AD.

However, it is not usually required to declare your C-in-C to be a particular type unless he is a named person - e.g. an Ottoman would not have to say whether the C-in-C is the Sultan but a Carthaginian would have to say whether Hannibal is the C-in-C.

We usually follow the bit at the top of page 147 which requires full disclosure which, therefore, includes stakes, etc.

Do you normally require people to declare the presence of an allied contingent before a game?

Nope - but allied troops should be identified as such when placed on table.
