Missing Lists

Post by nikgaukroger »

The more observant will have noted that the most recent list books suggested that some army lists may be available in other books or as downloads at some (indeterminate) time in the future.

It would be helpful if we could determine which lists may prove to be popular if this was the case.

Therefore, could you indicate which lists you think are missing from the currently published and announced books (http://www.fieldofglory.com/catalogue/) - i.e. within the time scale/area that these books cover.

Please assume that the Western Feudal period between the Wolves from the Sea and Storm of Arrows supplements has been covered as has India and the Far East, Italy before the Rise of Rome supplement and the Americas - i.e. we don't need suggestions from those areas :)

How about Social War Italians? Should morph easily from LRR, but with some possibly interesting differences, such as a Gallic ally; and was reasonably important in the history of Rome.

In the same vein Truceless War Mercenaries could be another possibility.

Hi Nik

Do you mean

"there are some allied lists which are already mentioned in the published books, but which dont fit into any currently scheduled army list. Of those ALREADY MENTIONED, are there any people desparately want to see so we can prioritise some of them ?"

or

"Have we missed any lists or allies out completely that really should have been in the currently published/scheduled books?"

The second one - I think we've got the first covered (crosses fingers).

So any ideas?

I was hoping to avoid this sort of question with this - "Please assume that the Western Feudal period between the Wolves from the Sea and Storm of Arrows supplements has been covered as has India and the Far East, Italy before the Rise of Rome supplement and the Americas - i.e. we don't need suggestions from those areas ..." (my emphasis).

I don't want to seem rude but I'm not going to repeat that or answer any further questions in this thread about what may be in the upcoming books.

However, safe to say that the Chinese (and their enemies) are well covered from much earlier than the Han dynasty and continue to the end of the FoG period.

I'd love to see some of the africans kingdoms army ( if you can find an expert about them :D ) as Ghana, Mali, Songhai, Kanem and Axoum.
I suppose that SE asia kingdoms as Khmer, Cham and Viet is covered with Far East and India 8)

Nik

Making the assumption that the Far East books will cover Mongol tribes pre-unification and Conquest armies (no need to confirm), the one obvious omission is the La Tene culture. I have checked and can't see it in the published and announced books.

I am not sure if the horse based cultures on the pre-Skythian steppes warrant a list of their own for the Indo-European people of what is now Ukraine but if they do that one might be worth a go. Modern archiology seems to be throwing up more and more from this period, mainly published in Danish journals as far as I recall.

The pre-Christian Nubians-- what a previous rules set designated Blemye and Nobades :)

Don't know how much historical evidence there is for these but they always seemed interesting. I agree about the previously mentioned West African lists.

Thanks!

Dale

Dale, Nik had already stated 'Please assume that ... has been covered as has India and the Far East, Italy before the Rise of Rome supplement'.

Whoops--my bad. That's what I get for not reading carefully :D

My original posting has been edited accordingly.

Thanks for catching this!

Celtic peoples were pushed progressivley West from from the period 12k to 6k bce.

The Gallic list (RoR) covers the later end of the "La Tene" culture, but certainly not the earlier periods.

You also have the Hallstatt, Jastorf, Villanovian and the various Iberian Celtic based civilisations plus Earlier Beaker bronze age cultures from about 2k bce.

Is that what Beaker was doing prior to joining the Muppet show. I had wondered.

It would be good to have coverage for the various pre-Islamic Arab'faster Than Eagles" states. These seem to have at times offered serious opponents for the Sassanians especially. Other than Arab ally lists, I do not believe any of pre-Islamic Arabs are covered in any current or announced books. In addition it might be good to complement these with a list for the contemporary Ethiopian/East African Christian kingdoms with which the pre-Islamic Arabs also warred prior to the rise of Islam.

Is there any chance you could do a collective book of those allies offered to armies, but are not in print yet ?

I know certain ones will be covered by forthcoming books, but are there enough to fill a supplement of odds & sods on their own ?

Also, will the Hindu Indian lists be split up into the various sub-lists for Rathor etc ?

Cheers
