Multiplayer - Race For Tunis

Post by Erik2 »

I have created a MP-version of the last scenario in my Desert Rats campaign.
Why this particular scenario?
Well, the strategic situation in western North Africa was quite interesting after Operation Torch.
The US and British pushed hard to move troosp east towards Tunis.
The Germans started a frantic ferrying of troops by air and sea to build a bridgehead in Tunis (as Rommel was pushed westward by Montgomery).
And the French units in Tunis were partially Vichy and leaning towards the Allies. Neither the Allies nor Axis could be quite sure what to expect of the French.
So this scenario tries to balance all the variables.

I have created a couple of challenges if anyone wants to test it.

Downloaded it but challenge you posted is still marked as "red" and it says 12Race for Tunis not 1v1Race for Tunis as a downloaded file.

I have one game running already so that is odd.
I'll remove the last challenge and post a fresh one.
(Going on a trip and will be back on Monday).

Edit: This is a strange one. The game tells me the scenario is not on my PC...and the scenario name changed between two logins.
Added the correct scenario/challenge and now the screen look like this.

Tunisia was the principal reward for the Allied landing in Northwest Africa. Direct landing at once was not advised for two reasons. Geographically area was too close to Italy and landings could be contested from the air at once and occupying Tunisia itself would not resolve the political and military status of rest of French possessions in North Africa which would jeopardize further build up and supply. What forces were available for the task were enough for the landings in Morocco and Algeria only with preparation to eventual hostile action by Spain.

Although fighting during Operation Torch was not protracted what delayed Allied advance to Tunisia was negotiations with the French about the status of French North Africa and the role of French forces there in the subsequent events. An agreement was reached and signed on 22 November 1942 and anyone interested can find its contents here: https://history.state.gov/historicaldoc ... 42v02/d454
