I recently found that Field of Glory rule book has its 3rd edition. To be honest, I got quite confused with all these version number.
I suppose Field of Glory 2.0 sold on slitherine is the 2nd version of the old FOG rule, correcting me if I am wrong. And the upcoming FOG 3rd edition is the improved rulebook of current FOG 2.0?
Can someone help me to clarify FOG rule, 2.0 and 3rd ed?

Field of Glory 2 tabletop rules and the Field of Glory 2 Computer game are not related, except in so far as they are both (separate) developments of the original Field of Glory tabletop rules.melm wrote:I recently found that Field of Glory rule book has its 3rd edition. My understanding is:
The Field of Glory (A&M) tabletop miniatures rules were/are:
When ordering Field of Glory Digital from Slitherine, I'm not sure if you currently get the RealBasic or Unity version with your purchase. Whichever it is, I believe you can download the other one, too, and use the same serial numbers.
On tabletop, I migrated to the Field of Glory 2.0 rules. I use the book (and my original army list books). I haven't looked into the 3rd edition, as I'm not a tournament player and I've been satisfied with the 2.0 rules.
On the computer, I've tried all three implementation of the game. The original (RealBasic) version is quite playable, but is (IMO) kinda ugly and doesn't feel much like the tabletop game. Still fun, though. The Unity version is much like the RealBasic version, but not as functional last time I tried it (although it does give you the ability to use Wolves From the Sea and Oath of Fealty, which you can't do on the RealBasic version). Field of Glory II is essentially a different game with no real code/resource ties to the previous versions: new engine, new resources, et cetera. In my opinion, it's the way to go if you want to play FoG on the computer.
The Field of Glory (A&M) tabletop miniatures rules were/are:
- Field of Glory (original book) - probably only available used.
- Field of Glory 2.0 (revised tabletop rules, book) - available from Slitherine. A relatively minor update.
- Field of Glory 2.0 Reader (revised tabletop rules, digital reader) - was available from Slitherine, but I believe it's discontinued. I never tried this, but understand it had some issues.
- Field of Glory 3rd Edition (revised tabletop rules, book) - available from Cavalier Books. A more significant change. I haven't looked at this, either.
- Field of Glory Digital, 1.x version numbers (RealBasic/Hexwar) - available from Slitherine.
- Field of Glory Digital, 2.x version numbers (Unity/NewRoSoft) - available from Slitherine.
- Field of Glory II - available from Slitherine (and through Steam)
