How to get more FOG players

Post by BrianC »

I was just curious. I would like to expand FOG here in Alberta Canada and was wondering if people know of popular web sites where you can post "gamers wanted" sort of thing? I need to get the word out but want to try to hit a bigger audience. The local crowd is mostly into DBA. But I know there must be gamers out there.

I plan on hosting a FOG game at the next big convention in Calgary but that is not until next fall. I'm just trying to think of ways I can draw players or at least people who might be interested.

Thanks for any advice

You could try puting on demo games at non wargames events. I don't know if you have local agricultural fairs or other such things. Our club is attracting new members through having stands at all sorts of non gaming events. It doesn't take many new players to get things rolling.

Another possibility would be local hobby or book stores. They may be willing for you to do a demo if it might get them some sales.

Libraries, local newspapers, modeling societies, even schools are all possible places to demo things.

When all the books will be written, may be the FOG team will be able to edit a fanzine for FOG and future rules as White Dwarf for GW world.
I'm pretty sure that without White Dwarf, GW wouldn't have such a success.

hi brian
another way might be to run what our club calls a bootcamp where they can learn fog or just try it out.Hammy was one of our tutors and was brilliant.the bootcamp nicely eases potential players as they get shown how to play and then they pass it on to other members of their clubs. and generate interest and create more players of fog in your area.also try museums to put on a demo game or as hammy sugested schools as a teaching aid.I am very sure if you want to know how to run a bootcamp our club members on the forum would give you advice and we would also be glad to offer a hand in frendship to another club in another country.

All good advice, except for the last post :). I think I'll start with a web page then look to expanding the marketing to perhaps hobby shops or other venues. Thanks for everyone's replies.
